I just viewed the lyric video to "Everything's Fine?" It is like the "Sign o' the Times" for the second decade of the 2000s. Those seeds floating out throughout the video signify to me seeds of dissent toward the massive malignant processions that are vying to rule our days.

I like it. I think that if a little more creative lyric could be substituted for the little bits of profanity dropped in 1 or 2 places it would be an excellent song to be broadcast on public media!

It's less urban than SOTT, the whole thing is just...much more green and rural - something Tori Amos-y, only without BEING Tori Amos - proud to say she's Indian! smile

Anyway, glad to hear your opinion, German smile Tell all your friends about it smile

"Urban?"--ah, code for Black?

Well, I guess I get what your saying, the song I compared to S. Bhattacharya's being a Prince composition with a bluesy/R&B tone! I didn't mean to soud tone deaf with that mention, but simply to say--in my clumsy way--that she is taking stock of the the era of events, like Prince did his 80s song (if not in the same vernacular wink ). "Everything's Fine" is a cool tune.

Not necessarily Black, there's just something...menacing about those opening synth notes: "do-do-do-doom", which doesn't really signify the rural, pastoral life (I'm in India btw, there's no Black people here!). Yeah I get what you're saying - I'm not necessarily down with all of it btw, even if it IS a beautiful tune - the "beauty of the Hills" only goes so far. Have you seen the movie Pleasantville?

I didn't know that you were an India native resident so I see your perspective on the term "urban" is merely the synonym of "metropolitan." In the USA, when describing music styles, "urban" typically has the loaded connotation I was compelled to mention. I appreciate your explanation!

cool

I've heard of the movie "Pleasantville"--would it be an idyllic, or ironically menacing environment in its story?

Er - *both*! I'd rather not give too much away, why don't you just see it? smile It's probably the Greatest and Most Important Cultural Artifact Ever Made, across ALL media, so....it's Important that everybody see it! smile

I meant "concrete jungle", "big city life" kind of urban smile

That's large acclaim toward "Pleasantville!" If it is as you say we'll all certainly have to pay attention to that one.
