Kelis: Where is she?

I know she had a bunk contract with Neptunes label, Star Trak, or whatever.

Then she moved on to the label Ninja Tune and released Food in 2014.

After that she was releasing actual food and printing cook books, selling spices and shit.

I attended a festival two/three summers ago to see The Revolution and Kelis on the same stage, and Kelis cancelled, seemingly to perform over in the UK instead.

I admit I was pretty peeved at that.

With "Fourth Of July" coming up, I was reminded that I haven't actually heard any new material from her for about the same length of time as D'MUMBLO... which is never a good sign. lol

Where is she???? Does she sing any more?

She popped up in The Guardian a few months back, talking about issues with the Neptunes, Nas, etc. Apparenly, she now lives on a farm and seems like she has a bit of space from the industry. She was plugging a tour, though, but I don't know if dates were cancelled because of the pandemic, or if it went ahead as planned. Seemed to be a lot of festivals, not just her own gigs. I saw her during a residency at the Jazz Café in London, a few years back.

She was a judge on a UK TV singing competition show called Pitch Battle a few years ago. She's currently hosting a new Netflix series Cooked With Cannabis.

She featured on the UK verison of The Masked Singer earlier this year and had started a Kaleidoscope 20th anniversary tour in Europe just as COVID started to really hit and shut down live music.

Architectural Digest caug...85 Million. (Make sure to read this article if you want to see how Kelis is living — The house is fit for a Queen!)

“We’re buying a farm, so that’s why we’re moving: so that we can grow everything and sustain everything that way.”

During the tour, Kelis revealed that she had plans to move to a farm. Kelis being a Le Cordon Blue-educated chef with multiple cook books under her belt, is completely aware of the impact eating sustainable food has on your health. In an effort to better control what she and her two sons eat, Kelis has decided to move to the country and grow her own food.

“Now that I’ve got these two boys, I want to control a little bit more how we eat,” she tells Architectural Digest . “We’re buying a farm, so that’s why we’re moving: so that we can grow everything and sustain everything that way.”

Kelis has an eight-year old son from a previous engagement with rapper Nas, as well as a two year old son with her current partner.

The move is a great choice for the rapper as she continues to venture in the Culinary Arts.

I loved Kaleidoscope and Wanderland back in the day. She went more mainstream with Tasty then Kelis Was Here was just way too long an album with no decent tracks. Kinda lost me after that although I still play 'Good Stuff' a lot.

Food is worth a listen. I thought that one was something of a return to form. It has a more reflective vibe than stuff like 'Bossy', which works for me.

Food is definitely strong!

I am just not used to such a space between releases from her, and I've listened to Food a lot already.
