Madonna - make up your mind please

as thrilled as I was to hear that she sang like a virgin at Tower last night in NYC -- MTV 2 ironically aired the 1998 Ultra Sound - making of Ray of Light where Madonna *swore* she never wanted to perform Like a Virgin again.

Guess i'll just have to blame it on her wild heart.

Madonna and me - well ... we kinda dont mix ...

I like her music ... the last album by her I got - was "ray of light" (was that the title ... !!??) ... i have to admit ... i liked it ... played it alot in my car travels ...

but as an artist ... she just opens her mouth too much for me ... meaning- she has an opinion about everything ... its like blah blah blah ... i saw her on the Today show today ... and I am amazed at her "staying power" ... I do have to give some props ... much more than Prince- she has her finger on the public's pulse ... I dont think she really had a flub ever at the music shops !!?? (as far as sales are concerned ...

But Prince's constant contradictary statements don't bother you?

Shit, Prince will go back on a statement the same night he makes it. In NYC he said something like "For those of you who came to get your Purple Rain on you came to the wrong place" and then 2 1/2 hours later he played it.

Well I joined this list to learn about Prince so I was unaware of that-I'm obviously no hard core fan like you.

From what I've learned from other people who are hard-core Prince fans he seems to like to tease his fans in a good way to build up the excitement.

It's completely different with Madge -- her anti-LIke a Virgin comment from 1998 was just another means of her need to convince everyone of her reinvention and that she really is a mystical mama -- she is in NO WAY related to that girl who once yearned for all the material things that came with her stardom. Or of course, the girl that talked about her pussy's 9 lives in "Sex." PLease. Now that she goes back on her word and sings Like a Virgin, she must be trying to market and win herself back with the old-school fans who are sick of her fake reinventions and because of that we ain't buying her shit anymore.

artists swear of their old material all the time. i've heard david bowie swear he'd never do ziggy stardust live at least 4 different times over the years, but in 3 or 4 years time, he'll do it again.

i think they get tired of performing those signature hits, get frustrated that the fans want hear those songs more than their new stuff, and make those statements. then a few years later after time passes, they decide that those songs are so great they need to play them.

i think i agree with you. after 15 years of singing the same damn songs you must get tired of them. peeps need a break. i enjoyed the music tour a lot due to the performance of new material. ray of light is one of my favorite madonna cds and i wanted to hear that stuff more than anything else! it would be nice to catch some old stuff now...now that she's had the chance to focus on the newer material. The woman didn't tour to support bedtime stories or ray of light, so it made sense. times are different now and i gather, from her comments, that she feels the same way.

she kinda did it 'cuz the crowd was begging 4 it. The Band didn't even know how 2 play it! So it's just Monte strumming a long...

I love when people complain about musicians doing things like this. I may be crazy, but I believe it's kinda part of Human Nature for people to change their minds. I don't know how many times I've said "I'll NEVER do that again/eat there again/watch that again" only to find myself doing it again at some point later in time. oh well, whatevs...

i just wanted to make an addition to my post above (without an edit):

i cannot stand that madonna slacks herself for past experiences. i think erotica, blonde ambition and bedtime stories were important times for her and i hate when i hear her blast them as childish or immature or ridiculous. She has done this a lot since ray of light and it saddens me to think that she would sell herself short. she always talks about no apologies but, while she doesn't directly apologize for these eras, she does belittle them which is a sort of apology.

you may now rejoin your regularly schedule thread. thank you.

exactly. most people i know have made some kind of proclamation like i'm going to start working out, or lose weight, or stop watch so much tv, or read more, or quit my job, or something, only to go back on that after some period of time. it's just that when celebrities say stuff, people film it, or print it, so when they change their minds, folks can point to it.
