Just a couple of weeks ago, Janet's Control was back on the charts, on iTunes. It was in the top 10 for quite a while. No idea why the surge, but it was great to see.

"The Pleasure Principle," written by The Time's Monte Moir, is a favorite funky track. I also love the non-single, "He Doesn't Even Known I'm Alive." "You Can Be Mine" is a great track, too. The whole album is so special and unique.

Jam talked about how he and Terry got clever and maxed out the meters while recording. They wanted to take Prince's nod in how he (Prince) would max out the sound on the boards, and used distortion as a filter or instrument. They called in Steve Hodge to help mix it. He asked "why is this so loud?" The guys, being proud of themselves, said, "That's how Prince does it."

But what they didn't realize was that Prince's board was set to 0 is 0. The board Jam & Lewis was using was gauged so that +6 is 0, so the stuff they had recorded to that point was really blown out. I think some of it they kept, because so many people have mentioned how different Control sounds.

I recently purchased it on red vinyl (as well as janet. on clear vinyl, The Velvet Rope on blood red vinyl, and Control: The Remixes on multi-colored vinyl, all available on her website).

Control will always be a special record in Janet's discography.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Does anyone on this board have a connection to jam & Lewis?

Love this album. A stone classic, the status of which is understated.

Control
This is story about control
My control Control of what I say
Control of what I do
And this time I'm gonna do it my way
I hope you enjoy this as much as I do
Are we ready?
I am 'Cause it's all about control,
And I've got lots of it
When I was 17 I did what people told me
Did what my father said,
and let my mother mold me
But that was a long ago,
I'm in Control - Never gonna stop
Control - To get what I want
Control - I like to have a lot
Control - Now I'm all grown up
First time I fell in love, I didn't know what hit me
So young and so naive, I thought it would be easy
Now I know I got to take
Control - Now I've got a lot
Control - To get what I want
Control - I'm never gonna stop
Control - Now i'm all grown up
Jam, woo woo...
Rebel, that's right
I'm on my own,
I'll call my own shots
Thank you
Got my own mind
I want to make my own decisions
When it has to do with my life, my life
I wanna be the one in control
So let me take you by the hand,
and lead you on this dance (Control)
Is what I've got, because I do with chance
I don't wanna rule the world,
just wanna run my life (ooh
So make your life a little easier ...
When you get the chance just take control
Control - Now I've got a lot, ooh
Control - To get what I want, oww!
Control - I'm never gonna stop
Control - Now I'm all grown up, ohh!
Free...at last
Out here on my own
Ooh ooh ooh yeah, hee
Now control this...
Uh Control - That's right
Control - Career moves
Control - I do what's right for me
Control - And me wants to groove, Is that ok?
Yeah...Oooh, Control
I've got own mind
Ooh baby
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah
I've got my own mind
Wanna make my own decisions
When it has to do with my life
I wanna be the one in control
Hop to it
I'm in control, and I love it, hahaha... thats right
Control
Now I've got a lot
Control
Now I'm all grown up Aahh!
I'm in control - Uhhh
I'm in control - Ahhhh I'm in control
Uhhh Don't make me lose it!

"Fast Girls" is a song by Janet Jackson and is the second and final single released from Dream Street.[1] It peaked at #40 on the R&B charts. The song was written and produced by fellow A&M artist Jesse Johnson.

The single had two different B-sides. The first B-side was "Love and My Best Friend", taken from her debut album Janet Jackson, while the second B-Side was the French Blue medley of "Fast Girls" and "Pretty Boy", which, like "Fast Girls", was also written and produced by Jesse Johnson.

The album version of "Fast Girls" was later released as the B-side of both her US singles "Control" and "The Pleasure Principle". Jesse Johnson's own version of "Fast Girls" was released shortly after as the B-side to his "I Want My Girl" single in 1985.

Album version – 3:21
Seven-inch version° – 3:36
Special remixed version° – 6:59

Exclusive twelve-inch B-side > "French Blue" – 6:22
"French Blue" is not a new song, as it is a mashup remix produced by Jesse Johnson of two songs originally produced by him: "Fast Girls" and "Pretty Boy".

This photograph is by singer Kenny Rogers. He delved into photography when his singing career sorta stalled a bit and life took a different turn. My roommate has his coffee table book.

I think someone behind her was holding a colored flourescent light and spinning it with its cord. So the photo was a bit time lapse to capture the blur.

"Pretty Boy" was on the Dream Street album. But they used it again as the b-side.

French Blue was a B-side on the "Fast Girl" single. It's pretty much a mashup/mix of "Pretty Boy" and "Fast Girls." Both songs produced by Jesse.

Oh ok, were there CONTROL outtakes?

I'm always interested in music connected with an album project

Surely there were, but I've never heard of anything. It'd be amazing to find that out.

Is there any fans of You Can Be Mine besides myself?!?

Real talk, that song is for Janet what Baby Be Mine was for Michael in a sense that the song should have been a release single but wasn't.
