Slave

I know Slave is primarily known for funk but it's their early records like Slide, Drac Is Back, Stellar Fungk, Coming Soon, etc. that were guitar heavy

that made me get into rock music. Definitely hard to pick a favorite when it was bands outside

the U.S that had a huge impact on rock.

You're right. Grave oversight to date. Heck, Little Richard and Chuck Berry created rock and roll, and Jimi arguably reinvented it.

If we're going to include funkrock, then I nominate Mother's Finest.

That's a great choice. I remember my Uncle had the Mother Factor album and I used to listen

to it all the time. Ironically I have my grandfather's 8 track of that album.

I first heard of them via Baby Love. It wasn't until a decade later that I realized they were actually

more rock than funk when they released the album Black Radio Won't Play This Record around 1989.

They are a great band live. They used to play Charlotte often in the 2000's.

Grand Funk Railroad, when They were a Trio!!!! Their first few Albums are Their BEST!!!! They got kicked off a Zeppelin Tour for upstaging Them, and they sold out Shea Stadium faster than The Beatles! Yet, for some reason, they are NOT in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame yet! But ABBA is?? For me it would most likely be Steely Dan, Van Halen or the Eagles, probably in that order. The Doors are up there as well as Grand Funk, Aerosmith, The Allman Brothers Band, Funkadellic(i thnk they were almost as much as a rock band as well as a funk band.), Blue Oyster Cult(underrated), The Doobie Brothers, War and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. l also see that people listed Chicago and Sly and the Family Stone as two of the greats, and i would agree.
So, personally, it would be Steely Dan, if you could call them a Band. The British though, they took care of business. Besides black American artists, the Brits had a major influence on popular music. Black artists though, they influence a lot s shit(as we all know). And that should always be acknowledged.

ABBA is just in there because of their massive international drawing power - their musical Mamma Mia has grossed more than 4 billion dollars in sales - they've sold hundreds of millions of albums worldwide - a strictly "Rock N Roll" Hall of Fame actually has a pretty narrow appeal.

I'm for that big time. I doubt it would have a narrow appeal. I'm also for a Music hall of fame as well which would have all genre of music such as Rock, Country, Soul, Jazz, Disco, Pop, Polka, Hawaiian and so.

Most of the biggest sellers in rock have been white male bands & singers. I've heard lots of black people call rock n roll "white boy music". It was the white rock fan base who started the "disco sucks" thing in the 1970s. Disco appealed to more different kinds of people than rock did, although rock in general sold more. Disco also had more artists of different races and had popular women artists. How many female artists have become really popular in the rock field? Very few. You make some valid points but I was talking about just having a museum that featured just Rock and Roll. It's not Disneyland, it's a museum. Yes sure most will be White males, but hey who were all those women going to the concerts back in the day??? Trust me white women love Pat Benatar. Yes I wish there were more women in rock, Heart, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, The Pretenders, and Blondie (yeah she kinda rocked as well) are some of my favorites. Hey lots af Asian Americans love classic rock and I think even woogiebear would go

Rock n roll was originally about rebellion. That's part of the reason it appealed to 1950s teenagers and it was in the soundtracks of juvenile delinquent movies. There's nothing "rebel" about a museum. That just means rock became the establishment like Pat Boone. It sells stuff to people like KISS Kaskets, Beatle Lego sets, and Metallica Monopoly games.

Does the E-Street Band count? ... when I think of the words 'American band' they're the first guys and gals that come to mind.

In terms of the UK looking across the pond to the States, the Foo Fighters have been our biggest American rock band for a good number of years now, no one has really come close. I'm guessing most people would count them out though as they're too 'now' when compared to the been-and-gone legends.

Speaking of Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band I just picked up Gary U.S Bonds Cd's Dedication & On the line. Both great CD's.

Bands that Rolling Stone used to put down in their magazine, but happened to be really popular in their day. To what? You were the one talking about a rock n roll only museum. So that implies you have a problem with some of the acts whos in now, since you replied to comments about ABBA. I explained that a rock only museum does not have the same appeal to the general public than the way the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame does now. A rock only museum would have mostly inductees who are white & male, so would not have as wide a varity of people visiting it.
