Awful? Um, not to me. It's a great song and one of many great songs by the Eagles.

A very talented, diverse rock band. Yes, for sure. And, they all had very good solo careers too, especially Don Henley. His End of the Innocence album is a masterpiece IMO.

I only think of Journey with Steve Perry.

I'm with ya on that one. Love Steve Perry.

Exactly, the rest is just karaoke

What about the early prog rock version of Journey before Steve Perry? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Exactly, the rest is just karaoke LOL...pretty much...i feel bad for the Steve Perry impersonator that replaced him but he's definitely a glorified karaoke singer...and that goes for most all replacement lead singers except maybe Dennis Edwards of The Temptations who shared leads with Eddie Kendricks before Kendricks left...and that helped Edwards not be isolated as a replacement frontman during that transition from the great David Ruffin becausr Ruffin also shared leads with Kendricks so the change wasnt as drastic

What about the early prog rock version of Journey before Steve Perry? You mean like their instrumental albums Next and Look into the future. Yeah don't really care for that sound. Glad Neal Schon wanted to start playing rock, so they got a lead singer and the rest is history.

Another good replacement singer was Brian Johnson of ACDC (Yes an Australian rock band but talking about replacement singers in general)

There are bands that I think are creatively more accomplished, but if greatness takes into account both creative and commercial impacts, it's hard to argue against The Eagles. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

It is amazing to me all the Bristish bands I think of before the first American band comes to my mind. One band that hasn't been mentioned that I think was really good is REM.

Van Halen Creedance Clearwater Fleetwood Mac Beach Boys Guns n Roses I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

What else? Pop? Jazz? Reggae?
The Doors were an American rock band, they were among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s and the group was widely regarded as an important part of the era's counterculture.

hard question, and not really claiming you're not right, but to me it's not 'pure rock' as I wrote.

Van Halen | |

Silly question but i'm gonna go with Sly & the Family Stone.

I would like to try using "the Jimi Hendrix experience" as an answer. The band was formed around Jimi who was an American, the other two were Brits obviously but the band's focus and centerpoint was Jimi. Plus he is the most influential rock guitar player, so definately needs a mention here.
If Jimi is not accepted other great answers IMO would be Steely Dan, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Aerosmith and perhaps Guns & Roses. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
