Wow, I am surprised nobody talk about "La isla bonita", for me is a very beautiful sound, clearly one of the best songs of Madonna.

And very unique in her whole discography.

Tough to say being a fan as I have my favourites ... but it has to be LIKE A PRAYER.

I think its the closest any artist has got to perfectly blending pure pop and art.

Having said, Ray of Light is fantastic as well. Erotica is also criminally underrated as an album ... not only does it sound amazing, I don't know any other music artist that has explored the themes Madonna dug in to on that album, at least not the way she did. I honestly think that album was too much for a lot of buttoned down people to take, and it still is.

Right? Actually, it makes me wonder about the motivation of that song, because it seems pretty intimal to her.

But I do know, is the name of La Isla Bonita, is an spanish name, and it is located in Canarias Island, called La Palma. I have been there once, and it is very pretty to be honest, but it makes me wonder how she knew about it, when barely Spanish people know about that Island (really, I have friends from Spain, and very few of them knows about that island)

I don't think she knew about it since she didn't write that song, and I don't think is personal or intimal to her at all, by unique I mean musically.

What do you think about Rescue Me, I think is one of her best aongs ever, she should have made a whole album musically in the direction of Vogue, Rescue Me and Justify it would have been epic.

Not a very big fan of the song, but love justify my love and vogue, it would have been interesting to hear that on an album sandwiched between like a prayer and erotica, not counting I’m breathless

Is anyone else a fan of the American Life album? I loved the artwork, the looks and the sound of the album and felt it was ahead of its time...and the singles did very well in Canada, the country Madonna thinks is boring

Some songs on the I'm Breathless album did sound similar to Justify My Love and Rescue Me I think and of course Vogue was on there.

I liked it, though I think it was a bit dour for most people. The artwork was great and I loved some of the themes she explored. Also helped that the tour that supported the album was one of her very best.

It was probably two or three songs away from being a very good album (I'd have dropped 'Mother and Father' and 'I'm So Stupid') one of which needed to be something upbeat that you could dance to, just for balance.

Vogue was in there, and in my opinion it had no business been there. What songs are you talkin about?

It's a very good album, I think the sound was sort of unique at that point, actually I think Madame X it's sort of a sequel to that album, because of the nature of the lyrics a combination between politics and social commentary and personal, introspective commentary. My favorites from AL are Nothing Fails, Hollywood, American Life and especially X-tatic Process. what a gorgeous vulnerable piece of music. One of her very best ever.

Swim, Sky Fits Heaven and In This Life even Why It's So Hard should have been included if solely because of the social commentary in their lyrics.

It's been 30 years and she's still delivering great albums like her last one, how come you don't like Rescue Me, it's an anthem, wish it had a video, wish it would have made it into her Madama X tour. From the little clips she showed with the batukada women choir, it sounded just amazing. What a wasted opportunity to perform it for the very first time. I can't wrap my head around the fact that she didn't released this just after Vogue.

You said Breathless album, those were not part of that album, but yes indeed they are alike sound wise.
