This song here should've never been a duet in the first place

Justin Timberlake - Until...t. Beyonce

Honestly, it should've just stayed as a solo song. It works better that way.

Say, Say, Say is funky tho. In a weird way. Stevie is on that one too, right?

I was thinking about Aretha’s duets and yeah why even try to duet with the Queen!

I actually dug "Say Say Say" more than "The Girl is Mine" back in the day. It was a bop.

I like both of them TGIM a little more, yet neither of them live up to the talent of those artists

I don't think the David Bowie, Mick Jagger duet "dancing in the streets" works. Bowie has one line that he croons well, but otherwise I don't like their vocals together. In the video the clothes are pretty unsightly and the dancing is deplorable. It is throwaway. Jagger is capable of some very fine vocals, but this is the mediocre section of his wheelhouse. Suffers unfavorably with the contemporary duet of Bowie with Queen (Freddie Mercury) "Under Pressure" that works as a song and shows off the talents of the singers.

I agree that "Just good friends" is a track that does not work. Always the worst track on Bad for me, and often forgot about. Considering the talent level on display that is a real shame.

[Edited 5/6/20 20:11pm]

I agree on the Bowie jagger I also think it was very last minute and it was charity it went right with all that was going on during that whole year or two span with Band Aid, Live Aid, We are the world etc...

.
This clickbait piece about “Just Good Friends” meant to replicate or build on the success of “The Girl Is Mine” got me thinking about other duets that sounded great on paper but not so much to the ears.
.
I remember hearing “I Used To Love Him” by Lauryn Hill & Mary J Blige and from the get go it’s unmistakably Mary but as the song goes on one almost stops caring whom of the two is actually singing.
.
Dru Hill and Mariah doing “The Beautiful Ones” comes to mind. To me that song should not have been duet-ified. Same with the Blackstreet & Janet re-duet.
.
Are there any other duets that you think might have just been better off as solo songs? Or with someone else?

O-M-G!!! That one especially was painful all around lol

AND they're playing that shit on the Prince Channel on SiriusXM. I go to 80s on 8 for five minutes when it comes on. I refuse to give it any airtime.

Not true at all, he's got great songs in which he sings with nother artist like Crybaby with Mariah Carey, great song and great performance from him, another is Signs with Justin Timberlake, Beautiful with Pharrell, Welcome To The World with Gorillaz, No Thang On Me with Bootsy Collins,Still Dre with Dre of course, California Gurls with Katy and Sweat with David Guetta.

This is Jermaine's most popular song on Youtube. It must be popular in countries outside of the US because I have never heard this song on the radio. I used to see the music video. Another song that has many millions of views that surprised me is Knife by Rockwell. Right now Knife is at 36,228,386.

Snoop did a really funky duet with Gwen Stefani called Run Away on his Bush album, Pharrell produced it. It sounds like it would be a mess but omg does it slap.
