I watched a superb and brandnew Bob Marley documentary the other day but I´m not sure if you can watch it in your region. Maybe with VPN or if you use an Opera browser?

It´s 139 minutes long and very, very well-made and informative, and also sheds some light on his not so pleasant sides, but all in all an excellent documentary.

https://www.arte.tv/de/vi...-A/marley/

Arte also has the Uprising concert on its page;

https://www.arte.tv/de/vi...sing-live/

.

The docu also focuses on how certain songs came to be, his relatives, his ties to some criminals, his distant relationship with his children, his many women and how they coped with sharing him, and how he became a Rastafarian . They also show pictures and footage from his time in a German cancer clinic.

Legend, Uprising and Bob Marley and the Wailers Live are great albums.

I like the song War a lot. Pimper´s Paradise, Rat Race and Concrete Jungle are also some of my favorite Marley songs.

Great man, great music.

Not sure if you are new to Bob but all the official Island albums are great.

Love Bob Marley's music.

This documentary is pretty good, there's a few of them.

One of my favorite albums is Live at the Roxy but I'm partial to great live shows.

"Marley Africa Road Trip", is a documentary that Ziggy Marley and his brothers are doing about their father. Live stream on FB. I was watching some of the videos on YouTube.

A heads up.
There are a ton of early tracks (pre Island Records)
You will find a bunch of compilations with familiar titles. But they might not be the versions you know. Quality can vary on tracks. There is some cool early stuff. But you cant go wrong with Island years

Oh, sorry about that. I thought it was new because it was announced as if it were a brandnew documentary. I should´ve taken a closer look. wink

Bob Marley is one of my all time favorite artists! I have been listening to his music for over 30 years.

Recently I have started learning to play bass guitar and this has led me to listening a lot of Marley's music again. Why? Relatively simple and mostly repetitive bass lines that are awesome to listen to and relatively easy to figure out and to play. And of course the slower tempo is a godsend for this absolute beginner. Thanks again Bob and the Wailers! cool

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

All great songs , especially Natural Mystic.

Did you know that Prince almost toured with Bob Marley in the early days? They had the same manager (Don Taylor) for a very brief time and it almost happened, but Bob had a problem with the way Prince dressed back then. This was around the time of the Dirty Mind tour.

Imagine Prince and Bob going on tour together....such drastically different musicians and different fans. wink

No I did not know that. People that are very religious tend to judge other people on how they look, dress. Maybe that is why Bob did not want to tour with P.

Prince had a lot of respect for "Bob Marley" and loved that he was marketed as a "rock star" and allowed to find his audience and not pigeoned-holed.

To read more about the Marley and Prince encounter, try to get your hands on the Jamaican edition of "Marley and Me" by Don Taylor. Don made it clear that whoever works with Prince will make a lot of money but he (Don) decided not to do it because he realized Prince would be very demanding.

Back to Marley...I always come back to his great music. I prefer his latter Island stuff but it is all good. I also suggest googling his lyrics if you don't have them or buying a book with his lyrics...there is so much wisdom in his lyrics. This man spread a religion around the world largely on the power of his music and the insight in his lyrics...

Bob was an Aquarius. The sign of the scientist and truth seeker. The humanitarian, communicator, friendly, inventive, creative, futuristic, helpful, altruistic, clever, intuitive.

I have noticed that Bob and his band were not always happy about the questions they were asked during interviews. Instead of being asked about their music, the interviewer would ask about private, non-music related questions. Some things never change! 😃

Have y'all heard High Tide or Low Tide? one of his most beautiful and touching lyrics, Concrete Jungle is another of his underrated masterpieces, Rainbow Children as well.

Songs of Freedom box set is great if you want a career overview - should be able to pick it up for a reasonable price. The deluxe editions from about 15 years ago are very good releases.

Oh I absolutely love all those you mentioned, especially Dennis Brown and Steel Pulse. I´m also a Black Uhuru and Barrington Levy fan. Sometimes I listen to old Barrington Levy songs for hours. There are so many great songs he did forty years ago that he himself barely remembers these days.

I also like Gregory Isaacs a lot.
