Will Janet Jackson Cancel Her New Tour

I'm not sure I believe this article, but ticket sales don't look too good so far.

I hope she doesn’t cancel it. Maybe it would have helped releasing the album already

It's still several months until the tour. She had good crowds on her last runs. I'm sure it will work out.

You mean like the fact that some Madonna fans are suing because she is late starting her shows?

No I meant in terms of longevity. People are aware she’s touring regardless of bad press or not. I don’t always feel like Janet gets the same type of recognition and it’s well deserved on her end

The canceled dates (14 so far)? The bitchy moves of making people put their devices in a locked pouched so they can't use them during the show? The late (VERY late) delayed starts?

On a broader note, I think the accolades that M and J get are apples and oranges. It's not that one is more or better than the other, they're different fan bases, although there is a great intersectionality betweeen the two. Madonna is the queen of reinvention (a term she doesn't like almost as much as being called a material girl); always something different. Janet is the queen of R&B. Her albums have the segues, the stories, the dance hits, the introspective ballads, the "this is part of my life" in song songs. They both write about what they are feeling or believe in at the time. Madge pulls from the loss of her mother, having children, and adopting children, and women's rights. Janet pulls from relationships, the pain of breakups, the self-doubt and self-esteem that seems to be lacking, the body image issues. People connect with all that with both of them. Yet there's still a divide of sorts, which is fine.

As far as "the same attention," Janet's tour hasn't even started yet. It's February, and the first date is my first quasi-girlfriend's birthday of June 24. Madonna's tour is due to end around March 11. I also don't think it's going to get canceled. Not everyone buy's tickets 4 months in advance of a tour that's just been announced. These divas don't always sell out a show in 27 minutes like the old days. Knowing dates could be added, folks often wait a bit before buying, sometimes.

Madonna also has Arthur Fogel has the promoter. If you know anything about Fogel, you'd know why that is significant.

Why is this bithy? Other shows do this too.

and i think a concert where people enjoy the show instead of holding their phone in the air the whole time is a muh better experience

I don't know of this article is fake or not.

I do think Janet needs to change it up.

She has been giving the same show for years.

Same arrangements, same dance routines.

There is alwyays a medley of control.

Why not have some jazz versions of her songs or something?

Have a 10 minute funk version of Nasty.

Yeah. Add to that the high ticket prices and the bullshit Ticketmaster and Promoters are pulling, like holding back great seats initially and making them available later on, platinum tickets, dropping ticketprices and it's no wonder people are hesistant. On both of my shows when I bought tickets, it said that ticketprices could change anytime. When I bought tickets for her Hawaii shows, 3 weeks before the show front and second row tickets came up, which were cheaper than all the tickets that were available in the first couple of rows up to that point. And if you knew a password you could even get them for 50% off.

Because people don't want to see a fucking jazz version of one of her songs. Is anyone asking the Rolling Stones to play an easy listening version of one of their songs? Seriously this is bullshit. She is changing it up more than ever. She is playing songs she hasn't played in years. Some never at all.

Agree with you about her doing songs she hasn’t. I love the fact she did empty at the metamorphosis concert, I only found out recently she did that. And even on state of the world she added goodies like feels so right and when we ooo.

Not really a big Janet fan so I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but didn't she cancel or cut short a European tour a few years ago due to poor ticket sales? I remember my sister talking about going to some Janet Jackson show with her friends but it got cancelled. So, if my memory is correct, she has form in cancelling if things don't go her way.

Having said that, outside of her diehard fanbase, she doesn't have the kind of "liveshow reputation" that a lot of her contemporaries would have. The likes of Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson (when he was alive) would sell out almost instantly based purely on reputation alone. I don't think Janet has that anymore. So that would explain lagging ticket sales. HOWEVER, once her album is released and fans who may be on the fence about going to see her perform actually hear her new music, assuming it's any good, that could lead to a huge upswing in ticket sales for her tour.

TL,DR; No need to panic. Once her album is released, sales should improve.

I think its good for an artist to change it up. Be creative. I dont see that with janet. She is relying on the same stuff every time.

Again. Nobody is asking the Rolling Stones or anyone else to change their songs. If you can't stand her songs or are bored that much that you want her songs sound differently, then go see someone else. Go see Madonna, who charges a ridiculous amount and sometimes presents her songs in a way that makes them unrecognizable. Me, I'm not paying for concertickets to hear some crappy remixversions.

Janet once said the record company wanted her to sound like Sade, and she wasn’t having it, so no need to worry about jazzy versions, though I recall a remix of you want this almost sounding jazzy

There's nothing wrong with "jazzy." She controls her output and there have been particular remixes that could lend to that. She's definitely an artist who tries everything. (Even "Whoops Now" sounds like The Partidge Family.) One of the Smoove remixes sounds more like something Zhane would do, and that production was so popular at the time I'm not suprised it showed up on a Janet song. The other version was a dancehall mix, which isn't jazzy.

But yeah, I'm glad she didn't go down that Sade route. Sade does Sade perfectly, no need for another.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Janet's VEGAS RESIDENCY SOLD OUT to the point she had to extend her stay there. This was just barely last year! This site has a real bad tendency to downplay artist of a "certain caliber" legacies & success. This same thing was done to Prince(r.i.p.) on here when he was alive & now during his after life. disbelief
