I'm sorry but the woman is almost 50 years old. She should start dressing her age. Beyond that these outfits she wears are just not flattering at all. Not sure who her stylist is but she should hire somebody new.

I hope the ones shaming Mimi are not the same ones supporting Lizzo by saying fat shaming her is wrong. I saw a picture of Lizzo in a swimsuit the other week. I can't even post it here, it's just beyond tasteless. A prime example of just because they make it in your size, doesn't mean you should wear it.
I know this is a touchy subject but being overweight isn't healthy. It shouldn't be celebrated. Just like we shouldn't celebrate people being super skinny either.

The OP post is sexist and short-sighted which is surprising since it's a female. Mariah, or any person, can dress how they damn well want to. Lane Bryant may think a 50 year old woman has to dress just one way, but clearly women can think for themselves outside of a patriarchal traditional role.
I can't understand why men (or anyone since the OP is female) are so concerned about controlling a woman's body, whether it's her womb, or breasts or what she adorns it with. Men need to stay in their own fucking lane and worry about their own beer guts or that weird dry patch on their ankle than Mariah fucking Carey wearing a onesie.
Mariah has never been ashamed of her body, whether she is carrying a few extra pounds (she's certainly never been obese in this photo) or being dangerously thin (where were the threads on that???). No one's making anyone look at her or give a shit about what she wears.
If the OP wants to dress "like a 50 year old," by all means - go for it. I'm 51, a male and the last thing I'm gonna do is tell a woman what she should or shouldn't do with her body. Hell, I'll be 52 this month and one of my favorite things to wear is my hot pink short sleeve hoodie with black trim. Don't like it? Fuck off.
Of course, the examples of Janet, J-Lo, Madonna (62), etc are given and valid. Those aren't women trying to do anything but what the fuck they want. Keep the traditionalism to yourself. Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people. " donโt really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r." |

Sorry we can all have opinions and mine is Mariah should dress her age or at least dress classier. The outfits she wears don't flatter her at all. Having the opinion that an outfit somebody wears doesn't flatter them is not sexist. Hell I think most of the stuff Prince wore in the 90s was fugly as hell and didn't flatter him either. Omg, calm down! It's just people stating their opinions, no one is is telling anyone what they can or can't do with their own body! So sick of those like you calling others sexist, and other things, throwing around accusations, simply because you don't agree with their opinion, or don't like it! People can say (in your words) "what the fuck they want"....they have that right, just like Mariah can dress as she wants, but people don't have to like it or agree with it, and can say it if they want to! |

Mimi just can't win. Early in her career, she kept showing up in basic cocktail dresses. People were calling her boring and accusing her of dressing like an old lady. Then, she moves to the sexy clothes. People weren't happy with that either. Now, some people want her to dress more age appropriate. She's a musician. She's not supposed to dress age appropriate. Mick Jagger certainly doesn't.
I'm just happy Mimi is still here and active in the business. She didn't end up like many of her contemporaries...being dropped from labels and disappearing or being consumed and succumbing to addictions. I'm happy with anything she wears. Yeah look, I have to agree that artists are free to express themselves no matter what age they are. Yes she looks like she is waving Thomas the Tank Engine into the station and yes when she prances around the stage like that I want to shout "Hey! Kool-Aid!", but she did a lot for commercial music over the years and should be able to enjoy herself. I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world. |

I love old movies, mainly for the way the movie stars used to dress back then, so glamorous! They didn't need to show their body parts, and remained mostly covered, and still they were beautiful! I don't know why some celebs feel like they have to dress provocatively and half naked in order to be seen, because truthfully, most of the time they just look trashy not classy.
[Edited 3/4/20 17:51pm]
I've never liked the way Mariah dressed. Always flashing way too much cleavage or wearing dresses that are way too short. It's not classy at all. And when you're close to 50 years old you don't want all that hanging out.
yes, the way she has dressed always reinforced my perception that she is vain anad shallow, at least in her image. I don't think age has anything to do with it, though her preoccupation with showing cleavaage and legs seems even more desparate now. |

??? WTF is this about controlling her body?? Yes, of *course* she CAN wear anything she chooses, but WHEN SHE GETS ON TV AND YOUTUBE WEARING THEM (and in some cases, shop windows ), and ATTEMPTS TO MAKE CASH OFF OF TITILLATING US, then OF COURSE WE GET A DAMN SAY IN WHAT IS AESTHETIC TO OUR EYES!!! No one forced her to be in showbiz, did they?? The era of singers who, you know, SING!, went out together with....well, before I was born probably. (specifically the birth of MTV). That was just too bad. Like, REALLY. Bad. Maybe we need to Bring Those Days Back. Just, statistically, how many people do you think are out there who can sing like her??
So... the day she chooses to go only on streaming audio platforms is the day we won't care any more what the visuals are. Till then, we do. (you know, like..... ETTA,......ARETHA......MAVIS, even!.....and so on.) Why the outpouring of sympathy for someone who's made millions of dollars even though her last decent song was about 25 YEARS ago??

No, I don't have an issue with showing your body at any age. My perception of Tina is that she has had a great bod throughout her life, and conveys a level of soul that Mariah doesn't. There is also a prissiness with Mariah that is diametrically opposed to how Tina presents herself. |
