This article looks fake.

I agree, it seems like a BS article. It's way too early to make such a claim, and these days concerts typically don't sell very fast when tickets first go on sale.

That's because of the new "Dynamic Pricing" method of starting out with really high ticket prices and then lowering the prices as time goes on.

Also, how the hell would they know what percentage of seats are unsold? Ticketmaster doesn't provide those numbers, and I wouldn't think anybody individually counted thousands of dark blue circles on the seating chart.

Definitely seems like a shady article.

I hate to say it..but not surprised if so..Maybe people have caught on.

I saw Janet once, maybe twice. I was less than shell shocked. I am not one to expect hardcore dancing and singing at the SAME TIME, esp being 50...(at the time about 10 years ago)....We all know she CAN sing...but she hardly did...AND hardly danced.

It was a mellow themed concert..no tricks..But then I expected to hear her voice..not recorded for most of the concert.

I always liked her..but won't pay to see her again.

Was she ever truly a great singer though? I wouldn't put her in the category of Whitney, Donna Summer, Diana Ross, etc.

I think Janet's dance moves, beauty and stage setup had a lot to do with her past success.

Well. I guess first youd would have to establish what makes a great singer. Someone who shouts through and oversings everything and has a powerful voice or someone who sings well and has a nice enough sounding voice. Diana doesn't have the biggest voice either, but no one would ever say she's not a great singer. But with Janet everyone feels they can. Why? Because she's a Jackson? Because she's also a visual artist and dances? I say she is a great singer, but the emphasise in her shows is on the dancing.

Yup, so we agree. Kinda like Britney and JLo are more known for their dancing and stage presence, while Christina has the better voice.

It's NO WAY in the world Janet could last for OVER 10 albums if she couldn't sing. She has an AMAZING sultry voice that sounds like a musical instrument. Proof of that is when she sung acappela with The Roots recently On Jimmy Fallon's show. If U don't like her talent why are U even on this thread? Go reply on another thread with an artist U like! If U don't pay to see her again she won't miss U. There's MANY others that will.

And yet I would take Janet over Christina any day of the week and twice on sunday. Christina does nothing for me. Don't even like the tone of her voice.

Yes. She does. But still I don't like it. Powerful doesn't mean better. But many people make that mistake to think powerful = better/great.

Not really a big Janet fan so I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but didn't she cancel or cut short a European tour a few years ago due to poor ticket sales? I remember my sister talking about going to some Janet Jackson show with her friends but it got cancelled. So, if my memory is correct, she has form in cancelling if things don't go her way. Having said that, outside of her diehard fanbase, she doesn't have the kind of "liveshow reputation" that a lot of her contemporaries would have. The likes of Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson (when he was alive) would sell out almost instantly based purely on reputation alone. I don't think Janet has that anymore. So that would explain lagging ticket sales. HOWEVER, once her album is released and fans who may be on the fence about going to see her perform actually hear her new music, assuming it's any good, that could lead to a huge upswing in ticket sales for her tour. TL,DR; No need to panic. Once her album is released, sales should improve.

Janet's VEGAS RESIDENCY SOLD OUT to the point she had to extend her stay there. This was just barely last year! This site has a real bad tendency to downplay artist of a "certain caliber" legacies & success. This same thing was done to Prince(r.i.p.) on here when he was alive & now during his after life. disbelief

[Edited 2/25/20 6:20am]

Rather than looking for anything you perceive to be the downplaying of artists of a "certain caliber", try reading the whole post. Read it twice if you don't understand it the first time.

My point was that regardless of Janet Jackson selling out a Vegas residency, she DOES also have a history of cancelling tours when her tickets don't sell. As was the case when my sister wanted to see her but the show was cancelled after poor ticket sales. That's not downplaying artists of "a certain caliber". That's a FACT.

HOWEVER, it is too early to say that the same thing will happen here though because her album isn't even out yet. When that comes out I think you'll see an upswing in ticket sales.

I agree it doesn't necessarily mean better, but I do think Christina is a far better singer than Janet.

Another criteria would be Vocal Range, where Christina ranks 7th all-time according to the below chart ... and Janet isn't even listed. But again, I love Janet. I just don't think her singing was ever among the best. I see her more on the JLo, Britney, Paula level.

vocalrangechart Axl Rose is the greatest singer of all time or, so says this chart

Agree...That is why I said she CAN sing...She is not completely untalented..No way is she ranked up there with great voices.

However...many of us go to shows for musical ability as well as decent entertainment....I was just saying that not only did she NOT USE the voice that she CAN SING with....she hardly moved....I would be happy with good at one of the other...

As stated..I will spend my money on other 'entertainment'....just not her...

I did consider that but as far as I'm concerned she's never cancelled in my neck of the woods and with the exception of the last concert where we got nosebleed seats and were packed in like sardines, I have always been thoroughly entertained and hyped when we left. I need some Janet adrenaline and no nosebleed seats ever again.

I'm just wondering why this thread was started. Like - a tour doesn't sell out in 20 minutes and someone's already chanting about canceling it? It just feels cynical.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

In the past, Janet would sell out quickly, maybe that’s why the thread was made. But it makes perfect sense that it may be slow sales since there is no new music yet. I’m excited to hear what she had in store this time and how the visuals will be for the tour

Then WHY was HER residency there EXTENDED?! The Park MGM hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.just doesn't extend residencies just for the fun of it. Janet was selling tickets like hot cakes and the demand was high for her.

Now that Janet is older, she needs to revamp her show. The costumes and choreo is trash. She needs someone who can choreograph to her current abilities
