The Jacksons vs Huey Lewis & The News vs Ray Parker, Jr. I need somebody to help me settle something here. As some of you know, Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. for stealing the melody of "I Want A New Drug" for his hit, "Ghostbusters". And say Huey oughta be sued for the same reason, cause he stole the melody from The Jacksons' smash hit, "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" Here are three videos, you guys be the judges:

If you listen to the long version of Got To Give It Up by Marvin Gaye, you can also hear where the chorus of Shake Your Body came from. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Randy Jackson was on Questlove Supreme about a year or so ago and said that the rhythm of All Night Dancin' from the same album came from Harvest For The World by The Isley Brothers. So performers copy all the time.

The whole Ghostbusters thing was blatant and dirty. Huey was offered a chance to do a song for Ghostbusters and rhey declined because they were working on their record, but someone got hold of their demo for I want a new drug and literally stripped it all and then handed the music to Ray Parker and he took and then the song came out and someone played it for Huey and he was shocked that they would just blatantly steal the song really not changing much at all. Huey won for an undisclosed amount and as Huey said back then " they got their hit in the end and that's all they wanted" , don't really hear much similar on the Jacksons of a rip off "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |

I already put the topic, but nobody cared. I don't understand why Huey Lewis had the nerves to sue Ray Parker, when he obviously plagiarized Shake Your Body. Then MJ could have sue Huey Lewis and Ray Parker Jr in return. . Someone here stated that Shake your body was already plagiarized on a song of the pointer sisters. Never bored to verify. |

interestingly,another song from that same album,"The Things I Do For You",reminds me of Earth Wind & Fire's 1977 song "Magic Mind".Similiar melody. | |

This is true.I don't even think that they always do it intentionally,but in the case of "Ghostbusters",it really seems like the music/melody was heavily lifted from the Huey Lewis song. | |

It was literally stolen from him, I mean he turned down doing the Movie and then boom there is the song. And demos were already out there so it was not hard to steal.
