Shiina Ringo is the most versatile female artist of all time

Let's consider... she plays to at least some proficiency maybe a dozen instruments, composes in a whole bunch of genres and pulls them off with authenticity, produces, arranges, writes fascinating lyrics, composes and produces for others, has scored for film, TV and theatre, is a prolific bandleader (often of bands otherwise almost entirely comprised of men, it's interesting to note, and is frequently the only or one of very few woman in situations that tend to be sausage fests, like when the government gave her that arts award recognising her contribution, but I think I've digressed a little). She's a 'proper' musician while also having at one time been a huge pop star and icon with songs near the top of the charts and major visibility.

I feel like there's never been a female artist who all the above could be said about. What say you? Are there even any other Ringo fans here, I wonder. smile

I think it must be night time in the US or something. How long is a night time in America, 20-something hours? smile

In Alaska, it's 2 or 3 months long.

A few years ago, Sheena did a song with Towa Tei who used to be in Deee-Lite

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Yes. One of only a handful of her songs that I don't really like (the duet with Atsushi Sakurai and the studio version of The Onion Song being a couple of others). The Engrish doesn't help. The version on the most recent MV collection with live strings is better though.
