Whitney hologram show getting terrible reviews Most calling it a crass money grab. And some of the songs aren't even live vocals, they're a mix of live and studio recordings. Plus the live band on stage are people that never performed with her live. So sad considering Whitney was someone who loved singing LIVE (even if her voice wasn't always in shape). I can see why Prince called holograms demonic. I hope his estate takes note and never does anything like this. Both Dionne and Clive are against it. I don't understand why they can't stop it.

I can't speak for anyone else, but to me holograms are just morbid. I don't know what else to call watching a dead person performing as though they were alive, when everyone knows they're actually dead! It's so creepy!

I'm not surprised at all. I don't like the idea of those kinds of hologram shows anyway. Especially not for people like Whitney Houston. For my money, there's only 1 or maybe 2 artists for whom a hologram concert would work. Like, if they put on a special live hologram show in Las Vegas of Elvis it would be a decent attraction. He did a lot of tacky Vegas shows when he was alive so it would kind of make sense. Besides, he's Elvis so all bets are off when it comes to good taste. And I say that as a massive fan of Elvis. The only other artist it might work for would be Michael Jackson, for many of the same reasons as Elvis. I also get the impression that if any artist would want a hologram of them after they were dead, it would be Michael Jackson. Seems like the kind of person who would get a kick out of it.

In the 1990s & early 2000s there were several Elvis Presley tours called Elvis: The Concert. It wasn't a hologram, but video footage of Elvis on a screen with his original 1970s band & background singers (including Cissy Houston) that were still living, playing live behind his isolated vocals. Since they went on for several years, I guess they were a success as a moneymaker. The tours still go on today, but I don't think it's the original band/singers. I know one was with an orchestra. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Can you get the same energy and pizzazz with a hologram? It still seems so novelty, like a curiosity sideshow thing. I don't think the technology is were it needs to be to make it a spectacular once in a lifetime event. 8t must be expensive to create because it seems we'd be flooded with lesser known artists that might generate the curiosity and make this thing normal. Hate Whitney is the experiment or rather the cash grab to normalize this stuff jus because. [Edited 2/28/20 11:25am] Time keeps on slipping into the future...

No, no AND NO!! I hate the entire concept. If they want to do a hologram on say an awards show for one song, I wouldn't be opposed, but a concert using a hologram is just plain wrong. I will never attend a show that does this.

The Tupac/Snoop was fun for a one-off.
The "MJ" hologram at the Billboard Awards (I think) was horrendous. It was a look-alike who neither looked nor moved like Michael Jackson. You can get that from any random impersonator. I saw a video of the Cirque show's hologram and it looked similar to me, just someone who can't replicate MJ's moves.
I'm not against it from a moral perspective, but so far, the technology isn't up to snuff for me. Or, if it is, its not being used correctly.
