Matchbox 20 to tour; lead singer seems to regret only making "Smooth" with Santana

https://www.usatoday.com/...441698002/

.

I thought this was funny as during high school Creed and Matchbox 20 were about the corniest, white bread music a person could listen to. They're going on an "anniversary tour" but the lead singer seems to think their only shit song is the Carlos Santana collaboration "Smooth". lol I heard their song "The Real World" at the bank yesterday and I was like "why do I somehow know the words and melody to this song?". Its cuz its cheesy AF. Smooth on the other hand had that roaring guitar and that great rhythm. I always thought "Maria Maria" was the cheesiest Santana collabo tune tbh.

if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

Unless I'm missing something, I don't see anywhere in this story where Rob or Carlos indicate regret with Smooth. Both say it was the exact right song at that moment. Maria, Maria might be the cheesiest collab in your opinion, but I love the song. Although, I am a Wyclef fan.

Sorry I must have misinterpreted "I don't think either one of us thinks it's the best song that we've ever done." or "I don't think it's the best song I've ever written and certainly not the best song that he's ever done." or "That's another great example of a song that I don't need to hear ever again"

or "Man, this is kind of cheesy and I'm sick of it." lol

Seems that some of the quotes about Rob Thomas are a bit out of context. Read the whole article . . . he talks about several of his own songs that he's either sick of or they aren't relevant to him anymore.

There are several quotes below that call it a great song and the jam of that summer.

I'm not even a Matchbox 20 fan (my wife is though). I just hate these sensationalist headlines!

Q: "Smooth" turned 20 last year. How do you and Carlos Santana look back on it now?

A:
Listen, we've worked together a lot. We did "Smooth," and then after that, I wrote for him and Mary J. Blige and Musiq Soulchild and Seal and a bunch of other people on his records. I think we have this affection for "Smooth," while at the same time, I don't think either one of us thinks it's the best song that we've ever done. I don't think it's the best song I've ever written and certainly not the best song that he's ever done. But it just really holds a place in our hearts. It was the exact right song at the exact right time for the two of us. That's another great example of a song that I don't need to hear ever again, but if you play it live, it just sparks something in the crowd.

We went through that journey together. We're like, "Man, this was the jam in the summer. Man, this is kind of cheesy and I'm sick of it. Oh, man, remember 'Smooth?' Let's hear that again."

Why do you quote only half of what he is saying? He is also saying "it just really holds a place in our hearts."

He never says he regrets making the song. You just made that up.
