I agree that Pat Benatar and Duran Duran should be in there by now. I also believe that Stevie Nicks deserved to be the first female inducted twice. Her influence and presence speaks for itself. Her first 2 solo albums were her most successful, but she is the main reason that Fleetwood Mac can still tour. Mick Fleetwood can tell you that!

Most of the R&B/soul related acts inducted had big crossover success. Such as The Tempatations, The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, etc. Rufus didn't and neither did Chaka as a solo act. Rufus is more like Joe Tex or Tyrone Davis, who had 2 or 3 songs become mainstream pop hits, but they didn't really crossover themselves as an act like a Lionel Richie. They were mainly popular to the R&B audience. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

N.W.A. wasn't a huge crossover act, were they? How many mainstream pop hits did they have? And yet they were inducted.

Exactly.Chaka also appeared on a huge pop hit in the mid-80s (Steve Winwood's "Higher Love") and it's worth noting that Robert Palmer wanted her to sing on his massive hit "Addicted To Love".Rock audiences definitely knew who she was.The band Chicago even featured her on their 1977 song "Take Me Back To Chicago".

Before the Queen movie, NWA had the highest grossing music biopic. Ice Cube is a movie star & owns a basketball league. Dr. Dre almost came close to being a billionaire selling headphones. There's your answer. Dre also discovered Snoop Dogg & Eminem. NWA was one of the groups who popularized gangsta rap to the mainstream in the late 1980s & early 1990s. Which was an influence on 1990s movies such as New Jack City & Boyz In The Hood. NWA were also behind acts like JJ Fad & Michel'le who had pop hits. NWA probably benefited from MTV creating Yo MTV Raps. MTV is pretty mainstream. They also had national controversy about the F The Police song. NWA was more an album selling group than a radio singles group anyway. Pink Floyd had few radio hits, but they sold lots of albums. Hip hop in general has more influence on modern music than Rufus or Chaka. Will Smith & Queen Latifah became movie stars in a way that pop & rock stars like Mick Jagger & Madonna failed at. Even Elvis wasn't really taken seriously as an actor although his movies were popular at the time. And that's a very small sampling of it. Chaka's discography as a guest performer is massive across all genres. Non-Chakaholics have absolutely no idea. Yet another reason why I would rather see her inducted as a solo artist than with Rufus. By the way, "Addicted To Love" indeed was recorded as a duet with Chaka and Robert but Warner and Burt Zell, Chaka's manager at the time, blocked it because they felt it would interfere with the "Destiny" release, an album they didn't even bother to promote. Chaka was her influence. Clive liked to put out there that Aretha was the main influence. Cissy said while Aretha was definately one of Nippy's influences, Chaka was the one Nippy stood in the mirror always emulating. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

So tickets sold out in 1 hour. If anybody is still wondering why certain artists get inducted....they wouldn't be selling out tickets in an hour if the inductees were Kraftwerk and King Crimson.
I just hope if they do a musical tribute for Whitney it includes a gospel song, like something from The Preacher's Wife. We don't need another wannabe belting out I Have Nothing or IWALY. And please no Xtina. The Bodyguard tribute she did at the AMAs a few years ago was awful. Pitchy as hell.

I just remembered Eazy-E discovered Bone Thugs-N-Harmony & Black Eyed Peas. A couple of BEP (will.i.am, apl.de.ap) were in a group called A.T.B.A.N.N. Klan. Eazy gave them a record deal and they were first on his Christmas song. Bone Thugs had mainstream success in the 1990s and were one of the first to use a sing-song rap cadence, which others like Nelly later became known for.
