Some William DuVall

Dammit ! I had just typed up a bunch of stuff, but the page messed up somehow. mad

So, i really like William DuVall's recent solo album. It's one my favorite albums of the past year or so. The songs are so expressive and dare i say, beautiful. It's all acoustic guitar and him singing . And that's OK.

So, for the people who aren't aware of who William Duvall is, he's the guy who replaced Layne Staley in the band Alice in Chains. He share's lead vocals with Jerry Cantrell, and he also plays lead guitar. I'll admit that i haven't heard much of Alice in Chains recent output(minus the first album with William). I will check out more of their recent stuff though.

Anyways, the brother did pretty damn good. If you like acoustic guitar and soulful singing then you gotta check this dude's album out.

Til The Light Guides Me Home. Dust in the Wind anyone? But that's OK.

And here's a few with William's previous band, Comes With The Fall. This is nice as well. William CAN play a pretty mean guitar.

He gets hate from many hardcore AIC fans because he doesn't 'do it like Layne'. Ridiculous...no one can replace one of rock's greatest vocalists in Layne Staley, but I thought William did a good job.

Yeah, that's unfortunate. Layne had a distinct voice, so it would have been pretty silly to try to find a clone of his. And i also agree that William is doing a good job. I applaud the guy for taking on the job. As you alluded to, just imagine all the stuff he's probably had to deal with. Probably racist shit as well as the musical criticism.

Anyways, i wonder if Soundgarden will eventually take the new singer route?

Only if they ALL run out of money, since AFAIK none in the band wrote lyrics save for Chris Cornell. Thayil Cameron etc all wrote music. I couldn't see them doing anything unless it was in support of new music....and i get the feeling they'd avoid calling it SOUNDGARDEN out of deflecting that AND possibly legally courtesy of Cornell's widow.

There's recent talk of finishing off the recordings they were supposedly working on, yet some appear to have only been in Chris ' hands so his wife is taking issue with their requests. Who knows if that'll see the light of day. It's sad and miserable that he finally succumbed to the darkness espoused in much of his lyrics
