What are your favorite Whitney Houston live performances?

I stumbled across this the other day and all I can say is WOW. This is up there for me as one of Whitney's best live performances. She absolutely killed it and the audience loved it. And it was all live. And the end when she did a gospel arranged version of The Battle Hymn of the Republic, it doesn't get any better than this. I wish there was a complete version of this available on iTunes.

There are other performances of Whitney's that I love (Super Bowl, Grammys, 1994 AMAs) but there's something special about this one. Maybe it's because the audience is full of service members. You can just feel the love in the room. Watch this concert and you'll see how Mariah, Christina, JHud, Bey etc. can't hold a candle to Whitney. No offense to any fans of those artists but Whitney was just in another league. On what could have been had she not had all those personal demons. sad

Whitney singing I Will Always Love You at the World Music Awards 1994 or 95. It's her most powerful performance imo.

This is hands down her best performance.

Past her prime but you wouldn't know it.

And miraculously staying in that chair the whole time.

Ohh good one. To me in her prime she was a bit like Prince in that her live performances outdid her recordings.

Two of my faves

This version of I Will Always Love You - Live in Chile. She looks and sounds absolutely stunning.

The version of One Moment In Time from the Grammys - she just about blows the roof off the building

Yes those are both amazing. So sad that the demons she had caused her to lose her amazing voice. A voice like no other. I really think the start of her downfall was when she was booed at the soul train awards. Did Michael and Janet (who were also major cross over artists) get the same kind of 'you're not black enough' hate that Whitney did?

I stumbled upon a nice version of Exhale a little while back (from 1:37:00), from some gig she did for royal nuptials in Brunei. Slightly awkward in parts, as cultural norms bump against each other, but kind of charming too - not to mention tragic ("What if there isn't a next time?"). Seems very relaxed and spontaneous, though. And she's wearing the hell outta that dress. shocked

1991 Billboard awards: Loverman/My Man/All The Man I Need

Man what could have been if she didn't have those demons that wrecked her voice and ultimately took her life...I would have loved to see her do an album of jazz standards.

Major props for standing behind a microphone for 10 minutes belting out incredibly difficult songs. When's the last time that happened at an awards show?

I loved when she sang gospel. This version of I Go To The Rock is really good and her voice is still quite good. I love the way she introduces her band at the end. She always made sure to call them out by name. I especially like the call and response she did with her sax player Kirk Whalum. At the end he was like I can't respond to your runs anymore. lol Yes Rickey Minor was her musical director but in many ways she was the band leader.

Best thing about this video is the comments are turned off so you don't get a bunch of she's high as a kite comments or pointing out every little vocal imperfection as though someone who is singing live must be note for note perfect the whole time.

Although I loved some of Nippy's earlier studio recordings, as a live performer, nothing really stood out for me.
