Duran Duran "Theres something You should Know" doc on showtime

Watched this last night and some take aways, the one glaring one is that its only an hour, it kind of runs like the Beatles Anthology, where they spend WAY too much time on the first year or two even before a record is made and then the once we get to Notorious there is about 15 minutes left in the show. Overall its a good show but I would have liked much more. Though some cool things were them talking about the first break when they became a trio, John said it was strange because we were at Live Aid and couldnt stand each other and then did Arcadia and Power Station, Roger and Andy left and now as a trio we had to concentrate that new found energy. There is no mention of Warren and others that played on things like Notorious and other albums they barely touch on Astronaut and Paper Gods, they skip Big thing and Liberty and do touch on the Wedding Album, skip Thank You, and Meddazaland and Pop Trash and also All you need is now, though Mark Ronson is interviewed. They dont really touch on Red Carpet though they discuss Andy leaving again and some of those reasons. Though I am not a big fan of Red Carpet I do know there was a lot of drama and some of what I heard was that Roger DID not want producers in there, he felt they made a good record and then it was scrapped and timbaland was brought in, which at first he felt OK, but when when Timbaland saw them with instruments he was "mortified" at what he saw. As Roger said "their production comes in a box". But all in all interesting stuff just should have been at least 30 minutes longer. Maybe a DVD/Blu ray issue. My thinking is that DD expected to be on the ballot this past year for the RNR hall of fame, they were at the event last year, talking and there was BUZZ about it. But I still think it is going to take another push to get them on it this year, a new record in the Spring and tour might just be the thing. IMO they deserved to be in a few years ago, as I have said before, whether U like them or not, the effect they had on VIDEO and putting that on the Map, being the MAIN pioneers of MTV they actually gave life to artists who benefited from the video age, like Madonna and Janet and MJ and PRince and Bruce etc...take video away and yes those still are good artists but bands like REM the Cars, even u2 are diminished big time.

I stumbled on this last night. I wish it would have been longer, but I still enjoyed it.

There is a lot actually to do a proper documentrary, which it seemed to be the way it was jumping albums. To stop when the commercial success stopped though 1993 they had one of their biggest successful chart and sales years, it would be like doing a Prince documentary for the masses and stopping at Most Beautiful girl cause reality is that is his last major hit.

well that would also be accurate. A documentary or film is for the big masses, not just for the fans.

I just saw the Queen and Rocketman films and they quasi also stop after the big popular stuff. 1% is interested in what comes after.

well there is a difference there, Bio-pics like Queen and Elton and for Hollywood as we know tons of things are actually wrong in these stories especially in Queens where about 40% of the movie is true. Documentaries can go either way, but you won't find lies because they are not using actors in these things, with Prince last thing I want is a cheesy bio pic with an actor which, the proposed Netflix thing is not in the vien of queen or eltons. Documentaries are for the loyal fans, like the upcoming US release of Mysify which is on InXs leader Michael Hutchence no actors no BS just a straight story even using his own voice at times, it's been getting raves worldwide and during festivals and will see a quick USA release and then probably go to dvd or streaming.
