Why is Ciara a flop? This is nowhere near a hate thread. Ciara seems like a nice person, I'm just wondering why she's been flopping consistently on every album, but she still gets media attention? Anyone else would've been dropped 10 years ago, but she is somehow...still here.
Plus, is there any way out for here? Or is she jsut done for? I want her to be successful, but it looks like it's never gonna happen. [Edited 12/1/19 17:53pm]

She's married to Russell Wilson, the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. He's "hot" in his career and since she is his wife, the media still pays attention to her too,IMO.

Back in the day if you weren’t bringing it then you fell off. Today celebs get attention for being ‘liked’ and in the media for things other than music. You can’t tell her fans she isn’t flipping though. Her music is whack

In terms of "flop" who are we measuring against? who is selling music now? taylor Swift? I dont think Ciara is or has the crossover appeal, so she gets her gigs tours and does events. Just because we dont see these artists charting and all over the place like Beyonce, doesnt mean they dont do anything anymore, flop would be investing millions and getting nothing, she isnt investing millions nor are labels giving her that kind of money, this isnt a Mariah Carey Glitter deal "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

She mostly charted on the R&B charts. But it's been over a decade since she had a #1 album. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I agree she’s a really good dancer but not known for her music these days

She is a GREAT dancer
Everyone is not going to be a star frontman/woman . It's so iffy. Like J-Lo is a great dancer and a C list singer/actress The only songs that were really good overall were produced by Puff Daddy(and usually some remake of a classic rnb song) . I think Ciara should think outside the box and do more dancing singing with veteran entertainers

If she had not married a hot shot quarterbck,do you think the media would still pay attention to her? Her hits dried up a long time ago.

CIARA and RUSSELL(COWBOYS) got visual attention when they attended a White House Obama era event together.
After that I started seeing more about Ciara.

She's barely an average singer... her songs are formulaic, with no outstanding instrumentation or rhythm tracks... she needs new, grown up production.. she needs that Karyn White or Cherrelle w/JimmyJam & Terry Lewis sound..

I don't know if she is or was a flop; she had 21 charted songs and several top-10 albums over about a 15-year period. She also had a lot of competition on the pop/R&B scene. Her prime stretch was good enough not to be considered a flop, and not every solo artist can be a mega-seller like MJ or Janet or Beyonce, etc. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

maybe not a commercial flop, but from a critical perspective, her music doesnt warrant her sustained celebrity status... Id be pressed to name more than 1 or 2 Ciara song titles ... and they were average at best...i know im not alone..

I wouldn't consider her a flop but an artist who has already peaked as a musical artist. Marginally talented from a vocal standpoint yes. Great high energy dancer yes. Her biggest comercial success obviously came from highly successful top charting debut solo album. Goodies, 1,2 Step,Oh and Get Up from the Step Up soundtrack are still dance floor staples. Her debut was triple platinum. Her single Promise from her sophomore album The Evolution went platinum and topped the R&B/Hip Hot charts. Her subsequent albums and singles have been marginally successful or commercial flops. I would go as far to say she has had a better solo career than some of her contemporaries like Solange, Kelly Rowland, Letoya, Keri Hilson, Jennifer Hudson, and Jordin Sparks. Even Ashanti and Keyshia Cole who probably were moderately more successful have hit their peak musically. To clear the air it's ridulous to think she is in the news only because she's married to Russell Wilson who plays for the Seahawks not the Cowboys. Ciara has endorsements as well as her entertainment ventures. She currently has a new single out now called Melanin. Don't laugh at my funk

I think 1 big problem for people like Ciara is a flooded 'market'. Too many voices trying to get everyone to notice them. As phunkdaddy noted above look at all those artists-female trying to be heard. I will say Solange goes into some very listenworthy discussions. I like her quirkiness. She would have been more noticed if she was say in the 1960s.
. It might seem like a 'disrespect' but really think many of them should think about moolighting as background singers with 'legends' or more seasoned artists who don't have a continued-community band. Like if Chaka Khan goes on tour or Tina goes for that last one for the road show, Ciara should be auditioning. If Joni Mitchell was able to do something Solange should be laying on her front lawn to get her attention to sing for her etc

I think Solange could have done well in the early 80's. Her debut album was pretty solid. I'm surprised and disappointed Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks haven't been more successful with their careers because they both are very talented singers but that's more than likely because neither one of them are overly provocative with their music or videos and they are not twerkers. I don't consider her a flop. She is actually wining. She is doing better than most who came out when she did.

After the "Krunk" era was done so was her career.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree she was associated with the 'crunk' era. She has impeccible dancing skills. She has yet to leave the r&b era dn try maybe dance music or something different than what she has done. I really liked her last single Thinkin' About You..for some reason it didnt take off but I think if anyone of these new girls came out with it like Selena Gomez or Ariana... HIT.
The BEST thing about her career compared to them, is that she owns ALL her masters and very little even Taylor Swift can say that. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Must not be a football fan and understandably so. Not everyone is a sports fan. Russell Wilson is one of the most popular players in the National Football League the creme de la creme of all sports. He currently signed a new contract this offseason making him the highest paid player in all of football. Her marriage doesn't have to do anything for her career. Yes her hits have dried up but you think this chick doesn't have endorsements? I've seen her on the cover of recent magazines. I just went in Kohl's last week and she has a shoe endorsement there and she has cosmetic endorsements. Didn't she host the AMA's last month? Not that I watch but it certainly doesn't kill her visibility. Ciara like Nick Cannon(who has been unfairly labeled Mr. Mariah Carey) isn't hurting for money. Don't laugh at my funk

I think paired with Mr Wilson they take on a 'wholesome' All American image. They are really into charities for children. Ciara for a period took on a little preachy stance to women and how to get a good man stance. I think her connection to Russell (which became famous when they attended the White House meet and great with president Barack Obama) has given them a 'poster' couple image.

She has a very good public image going for her, and fabulous dancing (no, actually). She is also social media savvy and has made every song into some sort of dance challenge. I actually got sick of following her because she posted kids dancing all the time but I'm still a fan!
