Predictions for the Music Industry form 2020-2029

What do y'all think will change in the 2020s? You can be a little hopeful, but keep it realistic.
1. The resurgence of R&B - with artists like HER, SZA, Ella Mai, Daniel Caser, and Khalid having big hits resulting in big streaming numbers and decent sales an upward trend of R&B looks likely next decade
2. Hip hop will remain a big selling force, but the subject matter will stay overall negative
3. Music will become a bit more diverse, resulting in more opportunities for artists skipping between different genres
4. Streaming and vinyl will be the most consumed products in terms of profit in the industry
5. There will be more independent artists than recent years (IDK if this would be good or bad)
I did general predictions but you can do more direct/specific predictions regarding certain genres and artists.

I think certain things are going to go away. I think charts and things like that have at this point become irrelevant and numbers wise its become guess work. I think the Vinyl surge that people are seeing still is not what they think it is. A lot of those numbers are going up in part to Record Store day which at twice a year almost sells more music than all year round as far as vinyl sales, so we have to really understand this "rise" in Viny; understand it still is VERY much a collector loyal fans type thing. Because of the cost now where an average record is $20 and in some cases $30 you are not going to corral the people that stream non stop to start going to buy records. I think the industry has to be very careful at this point and so do people that swear by streaming in every medium. REALIZE that you think you own stuff but you are renting things, so at some point ARTISTS that want to make living playing music are going to realize YES its cool you stream, but I really need you to come to my shows and spend some money because getting 2 cents or less a stream is not smart business. As far as genres, I think music its gonna shift again back to playing, its been awhile since music was competitve like it was amongst artists where an artist stepped it up because of the new so and so record, there is no challenge now because everyone is in their own box. I also think you will see more and more artists go indie as they say, there is no need for labels at this point for anything outside of promotion which they suck at anyway, ask Camila Cabello about how bad they are. Artists now can press their own stuff, tour and play gigs and not even have to worry about a manager, if done right, a musician can actually survive without getting a day job.

I would hope that there would be more artists with half a clue about what's going on around them without being off their faces or just chasing fame: artists with something to say without being silenced, but I don't expect that from popular channels. I barely expect it from independents.

In the 2020-2029 timeframe we will see increasing control over all human activity worldwide, not the least of which is the erosion of so-called free speech. The erosion of free speech and increasing censorship is now dressed up as anti-bullying and Hate Speech by the powers that shouldn't be (and other Nanny State nonsense) so the masses are swallowing their slavery whole. This can and does affect art.

In this timeframe we will witness another financial catastrophe that will make 2008 look like a toy. I would think some artists would have woken up and put it into the art and actually get a worthwhile movement happening but I am not holding my breath.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I think we'll see the end of Compact Disc towards the end of the decade.

Vinyl though, will continue to prosper.

At some point overall the purchase is going away, even in digital, it is something that is right around the corner, Apple is nearing it. It what it comes down to is that the younger are all about streaming that boat has sailed, they are not interested in owning stuff collecting for the most part by any means. This vinyl surge is once again NOT being looked at for what it is, two huge selling days, Record Store Days. Pearl Jam released a live record that sold out, 15,000 copies were said to circulate and all were bought. Now if you look at all the others that do limited pressings and most all go, there in lies your surge. But if people think they are going to convert streamers over to a 20-30 vinyl sale? You are really over reaching. The disc may go, and the issue is that people forget that music just does not exist here in the USA in fact we are not even the leader in the market, europe still by far beats us and also Japan is a huge market place where things "physical" still sell, and also you have STORES there, there is nothing in the USA as far as a music store, you have a few mom and pops in NYC in LA and some in other cities but there is no major music seller so labels here are like WHY do I even press something that is going to be sold where? CD's will still circulate, so the industry is stuck with that, it really put it all in one basket with the CD, it wanted clean sound, no tapes no record pops and it got it, it got billions of investment dollars and unless they have a master plan to it you really have created something you wont get rid of. Now the streaming issue, lets not forget STREAMING is beneficial to the consumer first, you get all your stuff one place etc... however you dont own it, you are renting. Second the labels like this because there is no overhead no printing and pressing etc... and way DOWN the line after others comes the artists. This is not by any means in their best interest and the argument of "at least people are listening" is total BS. As we all have seen the streaming, breakdown of what an artist gets, and Im not talking Taylor Swift I am talking artists that play gigs in clubs and do that leg work, they are making nothing. I see indie artists constantly doing go fund me's and things like that just to get studio time to record a song or an ep if they are lucky. So right now we are in a weird place, there is so much out there but there is really too much out there, you have labels signing people based on how many likes and followers they have on instagram and you wonder why your top 10 looks like it does. Its a big mess right now to be honest, and I dont people really get it.

Eventually, it'll all be commercials like in Demolition man. Disney will own everything, it will be all Disney music, all of the time.

360 deals will turn into 540 deals where an artist has to sign over their music along with any of the music their offspring create under their care, until they are 21 - the legal smoking age.

Lourdess will date a boy half her age...and Madonna will steal him from her.

Sade will release another album in 2027.
D'Angelo will still be working on his next one.

VR music streams will be through the roof….Like literally. They will attach an 8G unit to your roof to stream music straight into your brain via the chips we will all have.
How else will Disney collect royalties from you when they catch you playing a tune in your head?
So much for songs getting stuck in your mind.

Minister Kanye West will release his 4th gospel streamer (that's what they'll be calling albums) and release a rivulet (single) called "I Am The Way" which will get him publicly executed.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z will get a divorce. She will release the first quardruple streamer/tell-all video novel detailing everything he ever did wrong to the smallest detail. (She's keeping a list right now)
Jay-Z will move to Cuba.

R. Kelly will be in handcuffs.....in his 50-songed rivulet (single) porn music video compilation, to be released on Hulu/Pornhub (yeah, that'll be a thing)
He'll win four streamer's awards for his on-screen "performance".

Rihanna will finally get inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. She'll show up three days late for her award.

Ironically, Snoop Dogg's kids will be the lead cast members in the new remake of Cats.

Willow Smith and Billie Eillish will perform all of the songs on the soundtrack to Frozen 5.

The Weeknd will change his name to The Monday after a close call with death due to a drug overdose of Nutmeg, snake venom and reindeer urine.

Lady Gaga will have a daughter and name her Goo-Goo.

Cardi B's daughter will form a rap group and name them Kulture Klub.
Their first rivulet will be a Disney-themed song called "Chameleon Karma" full of innuendoes aimed at Nicki Minaj's daughter. This will land her on trial for public execution. (Disney said no bad thoughts, darn it!)
Governer Kim Kardashian will get her a stay of execution. (unlike for her ex-husband). Cardi and Kulture will perform at her Presidential inauguration. Future will be present.

I have more predictions. That's enough for now.
