Common has shared a new single, ‘Hercules’ which is taken from his upcoming new album, ‘Let Love.’ You can watch the new single’s accompanying video below.
The new album will be released on August 30 and will mark his debut on Lorna Visa Recordings. His new single features Swizz Beatz and in the video, Common can be seen thwarting a robbery at a video store. Vince Staples also makes a cameo in the video as a cashier.
Speaking about his new album, Common said: “This album is inspired by the book, Let Love Have The Last Word which gave me a path to write about things I had never written about before. It forced me to go deeper and because I opened up about so many things in the book, I was charged to go to raw, personal and spiritual places in the music.
“Production-wise, I knew that the music had to have depth, soul and dimension to it. I wanted the musicianship and the spirit of what live music brings but it also had to have something raw and basement about it. When my team said, ‘You should do some music revolving around the book,’ I just took that energy and went running into my artistry without focusing on anything else.” He added: “So this album is the culmination of this journey, this passion and this Divine Love that I have for one of God’s greatest gifts – Music.”

. This song HER Love, the delivery is weaker and feels a little forced. The lyrics didn't flow especially opening the piece. . it doesn't stand up to Erykahs Erykah Badu ft. Common - Love Of My Life (An Ode To Hip Hop) https://www.youtube.com/w...Nk3R23Twgw or the Roots feat. Common Act Too (The Love Of My Life) https://www.youtube.com/w...ZyT1qqjD_Q

. Common Shares His Love For Hip-Hop On 'Her Love' Featuring Daniel Caesar and J Dilla Common returns with the new single 'Her Love', featuring guests Daniel Caesar and Dwele over an unreleased beat by the late J Dilla. Published on June 14, 2019 By Laura Stavropoulos
. Common returns with the new single 'Her Love', a sequel to his classic track 'I Used to Love HER', featuring guests Daniel Caesar and Dwele over an unreleased beat by the late J Dilla. The Chicago MC first premiered the track at 12th-annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia earlier this month with fellow Soulquarian Bilal singing on Caesar's part.
'Her Love' marks the latest chapter in Common's career-long series centred around his love for hip-hop, starting with 'I Used to Love Her' in 1994, then 'Act Too', followed by 'Love Of My Life (An Ode To Hip-Hop)', his duet with Erykah Badu off the Brown Sugar soundtrack in 2002 and most recently, 'The Next Chapter (Still Love HER)' in 2013.
"You gave me a voice in this world / But it's been hard to choose another girl / They trip when you mumble, they trip when you sing / But you gave us a chance to dream," Common raps about the role hip-hop has played in his life.
The Grammy and Academy award-winning rapper also name-checks fellow rappers who represent the future of hip-hop.
"In Young Thug's, you see a future / You recognize Lil Uzi ain't here to shoot ya / At 21, you knew I was Savage / But you said 'Common, you will never be average."
On the track he also gives a shout out to Meek Mill, Cardi B, 2 Chainz and the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was killed last March in a shooting in Los Angeles. "Through the struggle, you taught us all to Nipsey Hussle," he raps.
'Her Love' is the latest single off Common's forthcoming album Let Love Have the Last Word, which shares its title with the rapper's memoir he released in May. This follows Common's last studio album, 2016's Black America Again. Along with the single, Common dropped a cinematic visual for the track, directed by filmmaker Savanah Leaf.
"I love music so much. And on Let Love, this recommitting, rebirth and 're love,' if that's a word, just came to fruition," Common shared in a statement. "Music has always been the genesis of my creative life and it feels more than fulfilling, more than wonderful, and a joy that is hard to wrap up, to be giving my whole self to it again."
