A Question About An Obscure R&B Song From The Early 70s

So there’s this slow jam from 73 or 74 that starts with a speaking dialogue & then the male singer breaks into a song, the chorus goes like “is it me or is it the money(paper) she’s after”? Does it ring the bell, the guy’s name is kind similar to Lonnie Liston Smith/Lonnie Smith but I cant for the life of me remember his name. And yes I tried both google & YouTube lol I think it’s a case of messing up the song title or the singer’s name.
