Bey, the creation, seems to be a lightening rod in how it triggers reactions. I do get tired of the self-promotion, but my reaction is moderated by how she celebrates black women and black culture and not just herself. For so many years women and black women especially were expected to be humble and submissive, so in many ways she represents the opposite of this. She is a force, like it or not.

I feel a bit of the same. I love the message in her music especially as it relates to the celebration of black women, and she does an excellent job in her visual presentations. But, my issue is I am not able to feel or connect to the music. I can connect to some of the lyrics, but I am not able to feel the music. In addition, some of her songs really lack melody and are just not hummable. For the most part, I can never freely recall her songs - I'll know the name of the song, but I just can't remember how it sounds unless I listen to it. Freedom and Brown Skin Girl are her only recent offerings that I can really say that I love .
