Just a move on Madonna's part to stir the pot and attract attention.

She posts pics of HER children, while holding up a slice of watermelon that looks like a skirt because of forced perspective.

This is not stirring the pot, this is her at home doing whatever the fuck she wants with her family. There is also a video of her song David in the kitchen, shirtless, dancing. Did anyone bark about black people being stuck in the kitchen, performing for white people? Nope. (See how far that went to try and make a point that wasn't there?)

VERY poor taste. She knew this was going to cause controversy. She's not that stupid.

If there was a Like button for your post I would press it.

It's not Madonna, but social media users that like to stir shit and are sensitive about everything. I'm not from the USA, so what is the connection with watermelons and black Americans?

Given all the crap that's taking place right this minute on social media regarding race, any American adult posting historically stupid crap in public is stirring the pot. That could of been saved for the family picture album. When will people take responsibility for their own actions.

Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Exactly.

In 2019

(really, since January 1, 2001, if you want a more precise date)

no caucasian person in this country has any excuse nor can claim any "innoncence" in terms of not knowing the historical & cultural significance of blatant ethnic stereotypes like "blackface" & "African-americans with watermelon."

Any person that wants to joke or play with these blatant stereotypes certainly can do so if they wish. Then, if they have the complete lack of social awareness (or apathy) to post such craziness on social media..

they should be prepared for - & not be the least bit surprised by - the negative feedback they get.

Anyone who actually doesn't know how or why "African-americans with watermelon" is seen as offensive.. would do themselves well to educate themselves on the how & why of this. Any such person has been wrapped up in a small cultural cocoon for too long.

In terms of Madonna:

this is par for the course, she's been down this road before herself.

She knew exactly what she was doing when she decided to post those photos of those African children with the watermelon.

With apparently little (if any) discernable musical talent or ability left,

she can certainly add another 45 to 60 seconds of "fame" to her clock.

I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

It's a racial reference. It's probably just easier to Google it. Thanks for the kudos on the post. I don't see M's posts as a problem when I saw them. The last thing she is going to do is offer up her children as some racial trope for the sake of stirring a pot. It's a ridiculous notion.

I think that's a bit of a stretch. I certainly don't consider myself "wrapped in a cultural cocoon" but this is honestly the first I've heard of this watermelon thing.

I'm guessing its because I'm UK based, and I assume its the US equivalent of the morons we have over here who chuck bananas on to football pitches at players of colour.

To assume the rest of the world knows all the ins and outs of American culture is a bit much though. Likewise, some Americans aren't that well versed on cultural sensitivities outside their own borders (for example, would they know the sensitivities in the UK around a certain brand of jelly/jam?) ... I doubt it, and neither should they be expected to.

This really is not an issue.

.

On the 3rd day God created the watermelon and said "Mmmm it is good and blessed it"

.

The watermelon is a distinct fruit cultivated from Africa.

If people can 'take back' the N word, which has no redeeming qualities, then take back the watermelon.

.

It is the chief of this world's luxuries, king by the grace of God over all the fruits of the earth. When one has tasted it, he knows what the angels eat. -Mark Twain

.

1. Watermelons are good for your heart
Watermelons are high in vitamin C, which is well researched in its ability to prevent the hardening of the arteries, increase the elasticity of the blood vessels and decrease inflammation. All of these factors can help prevent high blood pressure and heart disease.

2. They may prevent prostate cancer
Watermelons are high in lycopene, which gives them the same red pigment as tomatoes. Lycopene is a potent antioxidant studied extensively for its ability to protect men against prostate cancer. Try pairing your watermelon with some iced green tea — the antioxidants found in both may help prevent cancer in the way they work together in the body.

3. Watermelons are high in vitamin B1
This vitamin ensures a healthy nervous system and a lack of it — known as a thiamine deficiency — and can result in confusion and memory loss. Alcohol can also lead to thiamin depletion, which makes watermelon a great breakfast food after a night of indulgence.

4. They increase the production of arginine

Watermelons contain a unique amino acid called citrulline, which our bodies use to manufacture another amino acid called arginine. Arginine plays a direct role in the volume and direction of blood flow in the body. It's currently being researched in treating erectile dysfunction, with promising results.

5. Watermelons are the perfect post-workout snack
Not only are watermelons 92 percent water, they're also full of magnesium and potassium. We often lose these two minerals, along with sodium, in our sweat during exercise, and they need to be replenished immediately. Potassium and magnesium are known as electrolytes because they help carry the electrical signals in the body and allow our muscles to contract and relax.

Faux. Outrage. I know the racial connitations of watermelons. But in context it has nothing to do with these photos. People, like usual, are projecting their own prejudices on Madonna.

of course its a "race thing"

and of course most people that are not african american, will also be insenstive to it, and defend Madonna, and throw insults and make light of those who find her photos racist...thats just the world we live in and that will never change..as long as people have been able to record history, there has been wars, bigotry and prejudices over their differences...whether it be race, gender, sexuality, religion, country, age, etc...its one of the ugly parts of human nature ...everybody doesnt like something...and everybody has their own free will to express or project those dislikes, even at their own risk... people also have the same right to express their displeasure about it as well...thats life..
