What do you mean with that "why someone would"?

And what´s funk for you? I mean, for you rock is Chuck Berry and barely Elvis or you meant other thing?

For most musicians or funk purists, the emphasis of a funk groove is ON THE ONE, on the first beat of every bar or measure.. everything has to fall on "the one", the moment of impact, the beginning of the groove.. For example James Brown's "Funky Drummer", "Cold Sweat" or "Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose", or Lyn Collins' "Think"..or most Parliament/Funkadelic or Rick James uptempo jams...or Housequake by Prince... now some people make music that is considered "funky" that doesnt adhere to that premise, so some people have a different take on what is funk or funky

Prince was and was not a purist, Prince was the best eclectic and styles mixer in the history. He understood music IS evolution.

New Position is funk, The Continental is funk, etc. etc.

So, I respect your opinion, but that tune, E.A.U. is a good princely FUNK song.
