Isn't this her second comeback, maybe even third?

Her last album was only released 2 years ago? How is this a "comeback"?

Who says 'comeback'? Where did she go?

She lived in a house with cams on her 24/7, had therapy sessions and meditation and everything else while on those cams

released a successful album (Witness June 9, 2017)

went on a successful tour (which ended only last August 2018)

stayed on TV on American Idol starting during her tour in 2018 (so she doubled up on jobs).

So - where exactly did she go to come back from? Most artists spend 2-3 years between records. Sooo... "comeback" is a ridiculous idea.

Prince went 4 years between 20Ten and Art Official Age. Did people call that a comeback? Did they call it a comeback when he went back to 'Prince' in 2000, after posing as prince for 7 years? Nope.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

What was successful about that album? It was universally considered a flop. I remember even some of her fans criticizing her pretentious claim of making "purposeful pop".

I'm not really a fan of Katy Perry, well in actual fact, I actively dislike her and her music, but I seem to remember the album reaching number one in the charts and going on to be one of the biggest selling albums of the year. I know loads of people who would love a "flop" like that.

But, even if her last album sold zero copies and was undoubtedly a flop, would her next album, releasing just two years later, still be considered a "comeback"? I always thought that term was reserved for artists who had gone away or taken an extended break. Then, when they came back, it was called a "comeback". Having said that, a lot of terms change meaning over the years so I may well be wrong.

Nope. The singles bombed and the album flopped. It was #91 on the billboard year end charts, a major disappointment after the success of her first three albums and their singles. "Comeback" is often used by people on music message boards meaning they want someone who's flopped to have a big hit again.

Don't call it a comeback

I've been here for years

I'm rocking my peers

Puttin' suckers in fear

Makin' the tears rain down like a monsoon

Listen to the bass go boom

Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?

I went to that concert here in KC, and let me tell you it was the best concert I've ever been to.

I saw clips of that. It's so big and impersonal. When you're that big, I can only imagine fans feel as disconnected from her as she does from the world. It's the Thriller syndrome. You get what you want, then realize you're still isolated.
