Complete, official George Clinton / Parliament / Funkadelic / P-Funk Allstars discography. Wow! So this is a list I made last year based on the official discography on George Clinton's website. The list is a bit of a mess with the occasional single and many a compilation mixed in for good measure, so I tried to isolate proper albums and archive albums (that latter in grey, roughly placed at the time of the latest known recording sessions, with release year between brackets). . I'm not sure what the rational behind this list is: George Clinton's personal involvement doesn't seem to be the sole factor, given that his level of involvement varies greatly between projects, but it appears to be what he considers to be the official P-Funk canon, given that it excludes many other projects from P-Funk members that were released even while they were still part of the collective. . In any case, as a "canon", it remains a deeply impressive body of work when you know most of the content. I have most of those records save a few ones I couldn't find, there are some hits and misses, but it's a whole musical universe by itself and probably one of the most important musical legacy in the history of modern music. Making that list really blew my mind when I realized how much stuff there was (nearly 100 records!!), and how good most of it was, not even counting the aforementioned solo projects by P-Funk members, solo projects by P-Funk alumnis and numerous guest appearances and collabs on other artists' works that aren't featured there. . So here you go, enjoy . THE PARLIAMENTS – TESTIFYIN', THE MID 60'S DETROIT SESSIONS, 1969 (April 05, 1994) . What an impressive catalog from George & Co, just as is the case with the Org namesake and his output, I may not have enough time in the living moment to hear all of the work. Jeux Sans Frontiers

The mere fact that it spans 5 decades like this... it's mindblowing!! You don't have to listen to it all, there are many classics already^^ Why is your signature "jeux sans frontières"?? Is it because of Peter Gabriel? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

at first glance, it's missing this at the very least: https://www.discogs.com/G...se/6950157 Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

No it's there GEORGE CLINTON + PARLIAMENT + FUNKADELIC – MOTHERSHIP CONNECTION NEWBERG SESSION, September 26, 1976 (1995) but you're right I had misplaced it in 1995 because that was the release date when it fact the last songs are from 1993 (despite the core of the record being from 1976). I will change this, thx for the correction A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

. I completely missed it. . What's your opinion on Funkadelic 46.9% (aka Connections and Disconnections) and bands like Quazar and Mutiny? They're not in the list, but I group those with P-Funk, which I do not do for anything by Zapp/Roger after the first album. (the only one that was done with P-Funk personnel) . I guess the distinction is P-Funk personnel, but then you get into a lot of Bill Laswell productions in the 90s with Bootsy and/or Bernie. Yeah clearly if I had to make my own list I'd expand it to such projects. There's a list on Wikipedia that's quite comprehensive in that regard: https://en.wikipedia.org/...k_projects . The above is George's list, and unless it was made by an intern and no one ever bothered to check it, one must assume that this is what George considers "official P-Funk" as opposed to other projects. In the end it's sort of his call as he was always the mastermind behind the whole operation, this is why I found this list interesting, because it's like George saying "OK, this is the P-Funk canon, as established by me for posterity, and if it ain't there then it's not part of it". . I can't tell for sure, but it sounds like George's reasoning here was that if an album either was A. primarily produced by him and/or B. primarily produced with P-Funk money and sanctioned by him even if his involvement wasn't too strong, then it was considered an official P-Funk project, while all the projects you mention were basically made without his money, participation or approval (or his participation was minimal such as on Axiom Funk, but he and his organization were not behind the project in the first place, it was Bill's thing). Yes it is a tough decision as to where to draw the line. My opinion is no discography on them is truly complete without mention of all the side projects by anyone who was majorly associated with the core bands. Now that is going to be a list that I just can't imagine anyone taking time to come up with but it is possible.
A separate list could be argued for that included all of George's work on/with other artists. That might even be longer than his own discography.

Epic list. Thanks databank!
A few here I missed first time round; downloading The Decatur Connection now. That Sativa one always interested me; what's GC's involvment in that one? It's not on Discogs and I'm struggling to find credits...

Not sure exactly how involved GC was, but she's his granddaughter, she tours (or at least used to tour) intensively with the P-Funk Allstars and the record is pure P-Funk with a modern touch, so I guess it's a pure in-house production. AMusingly, We Do This (from the ONA Aftershow album) was released there, so it appears the live Prince version was the first release of it, a year before the album version (but the track was probably already part of the P-Funk setlist by then). Roger. One to hunt down then.
Would you also add the Baby Hunters Volume 1 and Live From Houston vinyl/VHS releases? Been looking for a download/rips of these for years!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I removed Live From Houston (which is on the site) because it was half a comp of album cuts and half parts of a live album that would be released in its entirety later. I have no clue what Baby Hunters is, I googled it but to no avail. Do you have a link to what it is? Oh right, so I'm 'relatively' new to collecting all things P-Funk. What was the title of the full Houston release? I thought those live tracks were unique to that release!
The Baby Hunters comp was a digital-only release to coincide with GC's birthday back in 2011. Here's an old blog about it: http://cosmicslopspot.blo...thday.html

It's there: GEORGE CLINTON + PARLIAMENT + FUNKADELIC – THE MOTHERSHIP CONNECTION, October 31, 1976 (1998) .
Not sure what to do with Baby MAKERS (not hunters, hence my incapacity to find it ). Seems like a mix of released stuff with some unreleased cuts, so most likely wouldn't count as a full length studio album.

Ah but you're talking about the full length DVD right? I have that, but the live tracks haven't been released anywhere else as far as I'm aware, except for Let's Take It To The Stage/Do That Stuff (Medley) (Edit) which was released as the last track on GC's Greatest Hits cd.

Well in VHS age that made a difference but now you can play a DVD in a computer connected to the hi-fi, or rip the audio, which I have done for several video albums, so to me it all comes to the same, a video album still is an album, you don't need to watch it, you can just listen to it I hardly ever WATCH P's video albums but I've listened to them to death A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Gotcha I was just curious whether the live tracks on the LP had ever been released elsewhere, in full or otherwise. I love the snippet on the Greatest Hits so I've always pined for a more complete experience in CD quality

Great list and thanks for posting. I'm not aware of the live Bootsy recordings from '76 and '78 (and couldn't find them on YouTube) but I'll check on Amazon tonight when I get home as I really need those in my life right about now...
