Samuel L. Jackson to play funk legend George Clinton in new biopic

Samuel L. Jackson is to portray funk icon George Clinton in a new biopic about disco king Neil Bogart.

The 1970s record executive was behind hits by The Isley Brothers, Parliament, Donna Summer, Gladys Knight, and The Village People, and now his life and career are to be highlighted in Spinning Gold, which will be directed by Bogart’s son, Timothy, from his own script.

Production is set to begin in Montreal, Canada next month (July 2019), according to Deadline.

Joining Jackson as the Parliament leader will be Kenan Thompson as Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jason Isaacs as Neil Bogart’s dad, Jason Derulo as R&B legend Ron Isley, and comedian D.L. Hughleyas Bootsy Collins.

Jazmine Sullivan has also signed on to portray Gladys Knight, while Neil Patrick Harris will play KISSco-manager Bill Aucoin.

Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan will tackle the role of Bogart.

The late music executive’s son tells Deadline, “There were many parts to Neil Bogart, including gambling, womanizing, drugs, but for my father, they were his superpowers. If he wasn’t a gambler like his own father, he wouldn’t have been able to run to Vegas to come back and make payroll.”

I'm glad this is finally moving forward. They've been talking about it for eons. Although Jackson is aging well, I don't know how I am going to recieve a man in his 70's portraying a 30ish year old Dr Funkenstein. lol.

Andre 3000 would be my choice to play The Dr.

I've been waiting to see this too. I remember when Justin Timberlake was slated to play Neil Bogart.....Kelly Rowland would be a great choice as Donna Summer.

Do u remember the supposed remake of The Last Dragon that was rumoured a few years ago? Samuel L Jackson was going 2 play Sho Nuff and Rihanna was gonna b Laura Charles. Nothin ever came of it.
