That's another good one.It sounds so genuine...as if it was recorded right there on the streets in Portugal with street musicians.

I agree with you about some of lyrics. I've never thought that was a strong suit of hers, as even at the peak of her game the lyrics were mostly cliches. For some reason, that doesn't bother me. I tend to listen to Madonna when I am moving, either in dancing, exercise, housework, or yardwork. Her music has always been wonderful to move to. Here, she just sounds invigorated and rather joyful even on the most lyrically challenged songs. Joy and invigoration with a beat is just what I need when on the move, lyrics be damned.

I agree,Madonna really sounds liberated on this album.....like she's finally free to make the music she really wants to,without thinking about the charts and expectations. She's stepping out of her 'dance music comfort zone' and the results are thrilling.

I’ve only heard sampler clips, not the full thing yet. It’s good so far but I don’t know about greatest work. Having said that I’m tempted to buy the new album for the car

i know i'm getting ahead of myself here, but i'm already curious as to what she's going to do
on her next album lol as you said, it seems as if she's finally free now, to explore whatever
avenues she might like in the future. especially since this album is so well received by critics
and fans alike. that's a strong signal that people are ready for more daring music from her.

Oct 9 ,2015 Musical titans collided in Minnesota as Madonna attended an intimate Paisley Park jam session hosted by Prince(r.i.p.).

Two musical titans collided in Minnesota late Thursday night as Madonna attended an intimate Paisley Park jam session hosted by Prince(r.i.p.). Minnesota public radio station the Current reports that Madonna and her entire touring crew – having performed at St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center earlier in the night – ventured to Prince’s(r.i.p.) nearby Chanhassen, Minnesota complex to watch the rocker and his backing band 3rd Eye Girl deliver a late-night gig.

According to the Current, a handpicked group of roughly 33 people were notified earlier in the night that something “extra-special” might go down. I know there were 33 of us because I ended up having plenty of time to count each and every one of us from left to right, then again from right to left and all the way up to the stage, which was littered with dozens of guitar pedals, two keyboard rigs, a drum set, and Prince’s(r.i.p.) signature glyph microphone, and by 1:30 a.m., a flurry of security guards with walkie-talkies started buzzing around and a door next to the stage swung open. It took me a couple of blinks to realize that the first woman and the head of the pack was Madonna. She is a petite little powerhouse of a figure, and was dressed in a sharp navy trench coat-style cape with her hair neatly woven into a braid that fell down her right shoulder, like a pop star’s rendition of Little Red Riding Hood. Her bright lipstick and dark eyeliner appeared flawless, and as she scanned the strange scene. She looked so calm and coiffed that you would have never guessed that she had just finished performing a two-hour show in front of a sold-out crowd at the Xcel Energy Center.

Before Prince(r.i.p.) took the stage, Madonna’s dancers turned the sparsely packed Paisley Park venue into a synchronized dance party. Then Madonna was ushered into a roped-off section of the room and then disappeared, undoubtedly to have a few private moments with Prince(r.i.p.) while her team blew off a little steam on the dance floor. At 2:15 a.m. local time, she had returned to the scene and was followed in short order by Prince(r.i.p.), who stood near the back of the dance floor draped in a floor-length hooded sweater and smirked at the energetic dancers who were frolicking around the room.

As soon as Prince(r.i.p.) appeared the small crowd started pressing toward the stage, and even after Madonna’s tour buses had all been unloaded into Paisley Park there were still only roughly 60 people there to take in the impending show. Most of the people in attendance were standing within a couple yards of the band, and Prince(r.i.p.) seemed a little uncomfortable playing to such an intimate audience.

“You better keep dancing,” he instructed us, sitting at an organ and leading a new configuration of his band through a swampy, funky new song. I decided to try to discretely scan the room to see where Madonna was taking in the show. I had expected her to hang back a bit, or maybe be sitting in her roped-off area, but once I stepped a little closer to the stage I realized that she was not only in the front row, but had perched on the edge of the stage at Prince’s(r.i.p.) feet, looking up at him adoringly as he sang.As the band stretched out into another jam and Prince(r.i.p.) ripped into a soul-levitating guitar solo, her mouth relaxed into an awestruck gape, revealing a shiny gold grill underneath her perfect red lipstick.

Prince(r.i.p.), too, seemed a little awestruck by Madge it was a rare chance to see two megastars share an intimate moment and a series of knowing smiles.

After the sixth song of the set, Prince(r.i.p.) leaned down and whispered something back and forth with Madonna, and then hopped back up to his keyboards and simply said, “Cool.” With that, Madonna made her way out of the building and Prince(r.i.p.) was left alone with his band and small group of adoring fans

I really like "Dark Ballet"...it seamlessly passed to the next song and I didn't realize it was the next one! Would like less synthesized voice on God Control but I get what she is doing with this. So far, I likes! biggrin

"Future" is great--synthesized voices, rapping, lyrics, and a hypnotic--almost Reggae--beat. Liking it so far. You have to listen to the whole album to appreciate it. Madonna lost me on Batuka though--tired of the synthesized voice on this song--would be much stronger without that.

Still don't like "Crave." Next! "Crazy" is more filler for my ears... Hope the album picks up from here--started out so strong... "Come Alive"--more filler. Hope it come back to life...

Now, "Extreme Occident" is back to form! Classic Madonna IMO. Grabbed me from the first few notes. On second listen now! This one is a winner! Nice transition into Faz Gostoso--back in form, Madonna! Love this song!

First listen response again: "Bitch I'm Loca"--a great tune and "I Don't Search I Find" is a killer dance track! Then it seamlessly flows into "I Rise." A great ending song for a mostly good album of songs with a strong message from it's artist; maybe her best over-all album in years. I may diagree with Soulalive on some of the songs at first listen but this is a very cohesive and strong effort from Madonna, taking chances again and not giving a damn! Well worth listening to...and I will again. cool

What do you think of "I Rise" as an album closer? I'm listening to it now...and well, damn! It's good! Check my comment above this about what I think of this album at first listen... music I'll make sure I listen more closely to "Crazy" at second listen! wink

Agreed! Probably the best two, though "I Don't Search I Find" might be in there, too.

Since the album's out, I've only stopped to listen to "God Control" and "Faz Gostoso", but I really enoyed it thus far, and I'm really curious about the live shows. I might hear the whole album this week.

There's so much in this album i think it will take repeated listens to really get a grasp on everything and all its layers. I'm glad she has finally broken free of any commercial restrictions and made an album she truly wanted to make, as much as i've enjoyed her albums from the last 10 years, this album feels 100% Madonna. She's done this before (Erotica, COADF) but i think this is a different time with her age being the focal point for most people now. I think i read a review saying that you won't hear any of these songs on the radio. I think that says it all to me. 8/10.

Had a feeling this album wouldn't be for me when it was announced it would be leaning heavily on Latin styles. Nothing wrong with that style of music but it just doesn't float my boat. As such I'm not really enjoying the album. Having said that, I do think its a good record. I'm so pleased M is taking risks again and she's stopped hooking up with whoever the flavour-of-the-month artist is just to try and garner some "street cred". My one genuine criticism is the overuse of auto-tune/vocoder. Her voice is strong enough, she doesn't need this ... it makes some of the songs sound cheap and dated.
