I assumed she was referring to the popular mumbling-goat-computer aesthetic that has become all the rage with the kidz these days. I miss singing.

How can you miss something that hasn't gone anywhere? Top 40 has always been primarily marketed towards a younger (mainly white) audience. Ya think that it was 70 year old women or Perry Como fans screaming and crying at The Beatles in that old footage? lol Was it mostly middle aged women who went to see Elvis Presley movies? It was Duran Duran & Wham! always on the cover of Tiger Beat & New Edition on Right On!. Bee Gees had lunch kits and Kiss all kinds of merchandising. If you want to sell a lot stuff, market it to kids and teens. That's how rock n roll & later hip hop became as popular as they did. They were rebellion against their parents music. Even big band jazz was originally really popular with the young adult flapper generation. They danced and partied to it. When bop came about, jazz lost mainstream popularity and became "sit down listening" music like classical or something.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
