One of the most underrated albums!!!

"Janet"

man i put this cd on for the first time in about 5 years and realised that i wont be taking it back out for a long time! There are so many great songs!

Out of 14 songs these, in my opinion, r killer material

1 Thats the way love Goes
2 You Want This
3 If (Totally forgot about this song its Amazing)
4 Throb
5 New Agenda w Chuck D i think
6 Because of Love
7 Again (Amazing Love song)
8 Where are you Now (should have been released as a single)
9 The Body that loves you
10 Any time, Any place (a personal fav)
11 Whoops Now (My fav single from Janet)

There arent that many albums around with so much great material, this is the pop album where you cant press skip!

Well it never gets a mention, compared to many madonna albums that get loads of praise, this album doesnt! In my opinion this and rhythm nation are better than any madonna album out there

I totally disagree with that one. Oh well, I think Janet in general is vastly overrated anyway. Only in American though, she's a tad underrated in places she isn't successful but deserves to be.

Sure, but her UK fans are weird. I'm a Michael fan really but I went to some Janet fan gathering once. I had to leave. You think MJ fans are weird and whacked out? Think again.

Funny, because it's the only "post-Control" Janet album I sold. I have the singles of TTWLG and "You Want This" That's enough.

Thats only because there are a lot of vocal gay white males here..of course Madonna is going to get most of the praise. Everyone knows the Janet album is the shit. Her sexual coming out so to speak..takes off where Rhthym Nations Love Will Never Do Without you video left off nod

Without "completely" hitting you over the head.

thats the way love goes sexy edit

I neva took Janet so seriously till the Velvet Rope came out! boy that was some kinda deep shit 4 real. Janet was fun to watch/listen(esp when you're a teenage young lady) I neva pictured myself listening to that woman till the Velvet Rope came out, it def made me LISTEN to the fullest.

Even Rhthym Nations which was described as her MOST serious effort neva strucked me like TVR. I respect Janet 4 speaking about Racial issues in that LP but it didn't move me that much.

Back 2 the "Janet" LP-Its cool I guess!

Agreed! I purchased a few singles from the album, but to this day, Janet is the only one of her solo albums (from 1986 to present) that I have not bothered to buy.

i agree that janet is underrated, at least in comparison to madonna. I'm talking about music here, not affect on the industry. janet has released great pop albums every time. All For You was a little weaker than the others but even still, it was a fun record! the Janet. cd is sooo good but velvet rope is the tops for me.

FunkyBrotha, I agree with you wholeheartedly. For some reason last week I pulled out the "janet." album and I've been bumping it like it was new. "All For You" grew on me A LOT lately. I kinda let AFY sit on the shelf for a year, but I pulled it out recently and it's a really good consistent album. This album has so many memorable songs. "Throb" is a club anthem. "What'll I Do" is a good rock workout. "You Want This" is a hot R&B groove. "If" is classic Janet. "Where Are You Now" and "Again" are the smooth, beautiful Jam&Lewis ballads (some of their best work), "New Agenda" (chuck d was wonderful on that track). This album had so many potential hit singles: "Funky Big Band," "This Time" (the precursor to TVR's What about), even the hidden track "Whoops Now" is great! We can't forget "Anytime, Anyplace" (one of the longest running Billboard #1 R&B singles of '90s -- along with "The Boy Is Mine", "I Will Always Love You" and "One Sweet Day"). Janet just hit at the right time with this record.

"Velvet Rope" was the CD that made me a Janet fan. I always loved RN1814 & Control, but TVR struck a chord with me. I still remember the day I bought it. It was a windy October afternoon, it was after school and I went to the Wherehouse and purchased it. I took it home and listened to it non-stop. I've probably played that album front to back at least 200 times (I'm not exaggerating). I've scratched up about 2 copies of that album because of overplay. The back of my Velvet Rope CDs looks like its been tortured by a brillo pad.

I agree, TVR is tops for me out of all her albums. The only problem I have with the Janet album is that I wish Jam/Lewis would have turned up her vocals a notch on You want this, TTWLG, & If. Overall, Janet is a great album.
