True. It's all very competent, current, slickly produced, sassy, cleverly attuned to the buttons her audience likes being pushed, etc, but I find it completely unmoving. And she's one of many current singers for whom 'emoting' simply means getting louder (though, in fairness, not the worst offender).

White conservatives used that as an excuse to imply if not outright say that Beyonce is racist. It was stupid then and it's still stupid now. Right, but she's a pop singer. A black pop singer, like Diana Ross, but that doesn't mean she has to make soul music. She can do pop, and that's alright. Loads of ppl like her, so fair play to her.
