So did Janet Jackson Madonna Paula Abdul and Michael Jackson (not in every concert/tour but obviously in the 90s-2000s) and lots of other 'respected' artists. * * Not validating or disparaging it. But it is what it is.

I'll go see Lenny when he makes his way back to Toronto. I've seen him 6-7 times and he always puts on a great show, but I will be watching for any lip -syncing, and if I see it, I won't go see him again. His latest cd is excellent and I agree that his back catalogue speaks for itself. He's written some really great songs over the years. I love the Johnny Cash song on his latest and the story about that is very moving. I saw Lenny in Toronto when I was in the studio audience for an interview many years ago. I didn’t get to see his show though so lucky you!

rafael said: not true.....he is that good.... Well I think we've established that he does lipsync parts of "Low". As for why, only he knows for sure but I'd guess its something to do with the fact that the chorus is sang in a higher pitch than his usual style. So perhaps he doesn't feel comfortable performing that live.

Low was a great song though, wasn't it? Should've been a massive hit for Lenny. Raise Vibration was his best album since 5, imo. [Edited 5/4/19 11:03am]

Might be just that the chorus line needs to be sung exactly the same way each time to be effective.
I checked out some live footage of him on Youtube because of this thread and Lenny's live vocals are really close to the studio versions in general.
Going to see him in a few weeks. Pretty excited regardless of an occasional "support" track. You know, Prince used them too in the mid-90s ("Now" on The Beautiful Experience TV special, anyone?).

Got my tickets to Lenny's show in TO in Sept. Should be good. I will report back to let you know if I suspect any lip-syncing. Really looking forward to seeing him.

I've seen him at least six times and never noticed lip syncing, I would have as I was always in the first 10 rows.

I paid for a live concert performance not a posing performance. Artist should be obligated to tell concert ticket buyer(s) if the lip-syncs or not.

Yeah, I get the impression he does it a lot from the videos I've seen. Some people can't see it or refuse to, but at the end of the day, if it was easily detectable then these artists wouldn't do it. It fools a LOT of people. They do it because they can get away with it. A good rule of thumb for telling if someone is faking it is: if you have to ask if they are lip -synching, then they usually are. [Edited 5/17/19 22:55pm]

Lenny would love to tell you about the stuff he owns http://www.youtube.com/wa...aOU4_szscw Please buy more tickets to his shows so he can buy more stuff, while he sings through his muted microphone (hairbrush-and-mirror style). Please do come again. In the meanwhile, feel free to listen to some MJ lip-synced tracks. You can start with his snoozeworthy Superbowl performance.

Just to clarify, I am aware that I have an MJ picture in my avatar. I hated it when he lip-synched too. But at least when he did it he was hanging off a crane or dancing his ass off. What's Lenny's excuse?

What's Lenny's excuse? I wasn't targeting my comment at anyone in particular...except the artists. MJ has lip-synced plenty of slow numbers (Heal The World at the Superbowl, for example). So he was cheating the fans paying big money to see him perform live too. Plenty of others have done it too. I think it's terrible every time I see it.

Any clips from recent shows/years to support the theory of him lipsyncing?

I saw him at the Palladium in Los Angeles late last year. He lyp-synced "Low" along with some other songs. I was really surprised

Saw Lenny Tuesday night and he uses pre recorded back ground vocals for sure but he also sings live over them. He also plays guitar live but majority of solos are left to Craig Ross. Saw him 12 months ago and same stage and similar set list. Very well rehearsed and delivered. He knows his limits and delivers a decent show. Those that followed Prince were spoiled where his bands knew over 200 songs and allowed him to improvise depending on the energy of the crowd

What's Lenny's excuse? I went to a pink concert this weekend, she is flying through the stadium upside down...and still sings live. No more excuses.

I saw him in 1993 and 1994, no lip syncing. They were both amazing shows.
