What's everyone's opinions on Article 13? So, I've recently been reading about the approval of Article 13 in the European Union. For those who don't know, it's a more forceful way to enforce copyright law that's going to affect youtube, instagram and facebook specially. Through this, even posting frames from films/videos or music excerpts that are shorter than 15 seconds is already considered copyright infringement and can be deleted if the author of the work asks for. It actually even proposes that you can't share a news article's link with a resume without paying the writer of said article. . It also passes on the responsability of posting copyright-protected material onto the platform (such as Youtube) and not the user who uploaded this material, resulting in Youtube as a company being charged. The response of them at first was that it would be closing down on all countries from the UN last year, but during the last month it appears there's A LOT of youtubers with content getting arbitrarily taken down, sometimes literally because they use 5-second clips of songs, and not even in countries from the EU or from Europe per se, even people from like Latin America are experiencing their videos taken down. . So what do you all think? In my opinion, I understand the artists' side (it has received support from people like Paul McCartney and many media enterprises), that it is unfair that their content can be shared online without much control and without paying them their dues. However, I'm inclined to think that the people wanting that are already millionaires anyway and just sound like bitter old people who can't keep up and don't understand that the old model of media producing-selling is not sustainable for much longer. Plus it's really a stretch to think that it's because of someone using a 5-second snippet of their song on their video where they talk about how much they loved it that's making they lose money. This just sounds like internet censorship that's going to affect many people who actually work producing videos for youtube, being that these people don't have a workers' union of their own. It makes me feel like we're about to live in George Orwell's 1984. . One link talking about Article 13: https://www.wired.co.uk/a...d-meme-ban

It would close down many web sites. Sone of the requirements simply can not be done by most web sites. The org would likely not survive or if it did would be vastly different. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"
