Prodigy frontman Keith Flint dies aged 49 I've just heard the sad news that Keith Flint was found dead at his home this morning. No cause of death given as yet. The Prodigy were a huge part of my youth and I saw them a number of times at festivals and gigs. They remain up there as one of the best live bands I've ever seen. A sad day...RIP Keith. I came back to add that though I'm not happy in any way that the guy died or anything, but.....there's still a limited amount of sympathy I'm going to have for someone that made a song called "Smack My Bitch Up". For whatever reason, it flew 2 decades back, but looking back, it shouldn't have. It's Not gonna fly today.

It was highly controversial back then and protested against, though as Joris said, the video does add another layer of meaning as the protagonist is revealed to be a woman. Fortunately today, we have hordes of SJWs to inform us how to view and perceive art, so we no longer need to think or critically engage ourselves. There are probably already posts online by the newly 'outraged' suggesting Keith's suicide was 'karma' and 'deserved'. Sounds strangely like a contemporary witch-hunt or inquisition doesn't it? Except now people's legacies and reputations are murdered via social media.

Thank God we have OperatingThetan to protect our minds from an outrage that hasn't actually happened though, eh?

...OK, I have no idea what "SJWs" are, but.....art??? The song is a cheap thrill At Best....do you realise it has No Lyrics??!!! [Edited 3/5/19 4:13am]

Did they make it to charts in the USA? Firestarter was unavoidable for a few years, proper mad out of it music at number 1 in the charts, good times

[Edited 3/5/19 4:13am] It's context and presentation that implies 'art', not necessarily the content. Are you familar with genres such as noise and power electronics? A piece can essentially be an electronic drone or feedback, but is still presented artistically. I heard one album that was nothing but the sound of looped engines of motorbikes in Spain and still considered it art, but all these things are necessarily subjective. Anyway, I've digressed terribly, so will shut up now.

Thing is, most of us that are sad he's dead realise that The Prodigy were groundbreaking, innovative, and that Keith Flint is/was iconic. Live, they were up there with Prince as being the greatest. So... they did one controversial song (I happen to like it) ....I mean it's not like Prince did any controversial songs, or songs that could be seen as 'a cheap thrill at best', is it? They were booked at Glastonbury too. I imagine there will be a lot of disappointed festival goers .

. So a song needs lyrics to be art...? . Also the line comes from Give The Drummer Some, which features the same style of rap that our dear Prince enjoyed: . I'm ready So obviously this is not a tune or lyric specifically about domestic violence, it is a recitation of a single lyric relating to altering a track. . Also Troop's: https://en.wikipedia.org/...roop_Sport . Regardless RIP - I love The Prodigy and especially Keith. I even enjoyed Baby's Got A Temper with that nauseating synth line that is like a ringtone nightmare. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

...instead of replying to each post individually - I just think it's cool that there are so many of you who value your personal freedom and will fight to preserve it, But.....there's no such thing as absolute freedom, y'know.....? Your freedom to swing your fists around ends where a woman's body begins....or is anyone going to contest THAT now...?!!

Do you seriously believe that a sampled line in a song would encourage violence against women? What a stunning indictment against men and intelligence that would be.

Exactly. And on that note, does he believe that a song about fucking your sister would encourage incest? Did he judge everything Prince outputted on the lyrics of one song, Sister for example, or did he see the bigger picture? Geez, only on the org

Are we really gonna get into song lyrics like that now? I mean if we are than we need to go all the way not just cherry pick what we want. Rapper 21 Savage basically has a song that mentions everything from hitting a Bi*** to Fuc**** her everyway to use of the P and C word all over the place and then we are supposed to feel bad cause he got deported or whatever that he is a "meanigful" artist is what one magazine blogger fool called him, come on snow flakes please, either walk it or shut up, this is why we lose every election, dumb shit. https://ambrosiaforheads.com/2019/03/kool-keith-ced-gee-prodigy-smack-my-up/ . UMC's Kool Keith and Ced Gee talk "The Prodigy" and sampling Ultramagnetic tracks: . Kool also recalls how the 1997 hit, for which he and Ced received platinum plaques, led to more work. “They had another album [Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned] with the big lips on it where they sampled our stuff, too.” Those compositions included “Wake Up Call” and “You’ll Be Under My Wheels.” As Scott points out, Keith’s “Critical Breakdown” vocal (“I’ll take your brain to another dimension / Pay close attention“) was sampled for The Prodigy’s 1992 single, “Out of Space.” . Ced Gee, recognized for his revolutionary sample techniques, said the re-purposed music was a blessing. “I was under a levy from the IRS at that time. The ‘Smack My B*tch Up’ sample paid off the levy which was about $100,000. After it was over and all corrected, I still had $18,000. That’s how sweet that was. [Laughs] I got that, so imagine what [others] made.” . Keith expounds, “I never had to run around to chase that money, and I was provided for well. And I hope that band didn’t break up, but Keith was such an important person as the lead singer in the band. That’s like Michael Jackson in Jackson 5, Kurt Cobain [in Nirvana], so it’s kind of hard.” if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2
