Who would bet that Sly Stone outlived MJ and Prince?

I thought each time when MJ and Prince died : how can it be that this motherfucker of Sly is still living after all the hard drugs and poverty he had been through?
.
How ironic is that? What is the morality in this story?
.
I used to joke about it in the early 2000's with a friend of mine who, like me, is fan of these 3 music legends. Who is gonna die first : Prince or MJ? I answered : Sly Stone !
.
Who would have bet half a Penny in the 80's that Sly would be the last of the 3 to go? That s incredibly insane when you think about it.
.
Of course it was obvious for me by 2003 and the Bashir documentary that MJ took some drugs that affected his behaviour, but he was still in good shape and could still write songs.
.
That s almost 50 years now that Sly s brain and body were affected by drugs, that he cancelled concerts, fucked up his carreer, etc.

What's so different about Sly to single him out from others like Ozzy Osbourne, Keith Richards, Joe Walsh, Bonnie Raitt, Mötley Crüe, Chaka Khan, Loretta Lynn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eric Clapton, Etta James, Boy George, etc. who lived long lives? Nikki Sixx & Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode actually died but came back.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Since the Jackson siblings have said that their mother was a fan of country music and that they sang country songs in Gary Indiana, I would guess Loretta Lynn is a part of Mike's tastes & history. Mike sang backgrounds on a Kenny Rogers album and Kenny sang on We Are The World. Jermaine appeared one season of the TV show Gone Country. Mick Jagger sang on State Of Shock. There was a rumor in the early 1980s that Mike was going to do a duet with Boy George. Mike wanted to work with Kraftwerk but was turned down. John Taylor from Duran Duran said Mike wanted to work with them too but there was scheduling conflicts and nothing became of it. If Mike listened to Kraftwerk & Duran Duran, then it's likely he listened to Depeche Mode too. Also, why not the Crüe since Mike had Eddie Van Halen, Steve Stevens, & Slash play on his records? He also performed with Dave Navarro who was in the Chili Peppers for a brief period. The Chili Peppers, minus Anthony, played on the remix of Janet's What'll I Do

Fame and activity means you're an influencer. Don't be famous & publically fight your record company for artist rights...and money. Those fuckers will get you.

George Michael

Michael Jackson

Prince

All publically fighting their bosses. All dead

Their bosses and countless associates continue dining on their flesh today: music, demos, books, exhibitions, photos, artwork, fan gatherings...

Worth more dead than alive.

I've always thought Boy George would've been the first to go.

Man, messing with drugs is a crap shoot. Some people can do them for decades and not directly die from them, yet other people can do them one or two(or 50 or 100) times and die. A big thing is tolerance. Them old drug abusers have developed tolerance. Another thing is the type of drugs that a person uses. Opiates are killers. Period. And synthetic drugs(like a lot of shit that is out there today)can be just as bad. I've known 5 or 6 people who have died from drug overdoses and out of them, one died from a cocaine overdose(brain aneurysm)and the others were opiate related. I've also known at least two people who died from alcohol abuse(cirrhosis).

Once again, besides opiate related drugs, there's not really a rhyme or reason as to who dies from using drugs. Also, some people have medical conditions(diagnosed or not)that make them susceptible to death from drug use.

As for Prince. I never ever would have predicted that he would have die from a drug overdose. I always thought that if Prince died young, it would be from a plane accident. That was always my fear.

I thought that too. Since he was in good health and rich, I imagined him going on tour and releasing albums until 2050 at least...

I always imagined that Prince would still be alive and playing gigs into his 80s but would probably become a blues musician by then....like B.B King, who lived a very long life.

That's weird because I always just assumed he'd die young. I couldn't imagine him as an old man. Same with Michael Jackson and George Michael. Being old just doesn't suit them in the way it suits the likes of Bruce Springsteen or George Clinton.

I thought Prince would keep playing until the end, and he did. I didn't imagine him playing the blues, but continuing to play funk when funk became just as absent as blues is now.
