The Bobby DeBarge Story TV One

The Bobby DeBarge Story, the film is being produced by TV One and will be released in June. The story revolves around Bobby DeBarge, a singer in the 1970s R&B act Switch and later the family band DeBarge. Both acts were signed to Gordy, with Switch falling under Motown and DeBarge being in a deal with Gordy Records.
Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

I take it he had a tumultuous life and a sordid death otherwise why bother making a biopic.

Surprised they are doing this one. Except die hard R&B/Soul music listeners of 1978,1979 and 1980 most have no idea who he is. Up until Unsungs Switch episode my son said he always thought El Debarge sung " There'll Never Be" and I Call Your Name.

This is unnecessary. We already had the Switch Unsung episode and previously, the DeBarge Unsung which covered a lot of Bobby’s story. We know his story and the tragic ending.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This is a biopic not a documentary. I mean we basically know the ending to all biopics.
