OK, I am probably going to get slammed for this, but I noticed this awhile back and just want someone to get me lined out. At the beginning of the Roots band set on The Tonight Show, someone..(I think it is Q) shouts out a number, then they all start playing. Last night he shouts "1017" and off they go. A couple of other nights I know he shouted out some other number, but I couldn't make out what it was.

I know this sounds crazy or maybe it has already been covered here, but does that number mean something? Knowing how he was a friend of Prince's, could it possibly be the number of days since he left the earth? That number would be wrong for February 18, 2019 (yesterday) but that is all I could come up with. If it means something else, what is it??? I feel silly for even guessing this....

On Late Night, it was area codes... on Tonight Show it's usually the episode number. If it's area codes, he'll usually say the name of the city, unlike on Late Night where he'd just say the area code and nothing else.

This is exactly what it is. He's been yelling a number since day 1, well before Prince died. The number of days they've done episodes and the days Prince died were eventually going to align because Prince is consecutively dead, but The Tonight Show doesn't tape or air every single day.

So no, it's not about Prince. it's literally the episode number.
