But the kids ain't checking for a 66 year old singer so I'm not sure why she would be concerned about the type of music they are looking for instead of concentrating on what her fan base will actually be excited over. Before she left WB in the 90's, she was horrified over the fact that the label was trying to turn her into a dance diva. lol

Well, it's not like she is making EDM/pop like on the radio, just feel good, uptempo schitt.

Oh God! I hope that she would never be pressured into stooping THAT low. She's too mature to be singing that kind of garbage.

I remember in 1992 anticipating the the release of "Woman I Am", in fear that there would be some New Jack Swing songs on the album since it was so popular at the time and a lot of the veteran artists were taking that route. Thank God she didn't! "Woman I Am" was exceptional from beginning to end.

I actually think it's cool that she's trying something a bit different. I like both singles from the album and even though it's not necessarily the direction I would've chosen for her to take, it's still funky! Long as it's funky, I'm in.

What is she talking about??? The music business has always been about competition. There is less competition now than there was when she was a big star back in the 70', 80's and early 90s. The superstars of today are in those positions due to the lack of competition.

Chaka gets confused at times. She probably thinks it's 1989. lol

She was trending on Twitter in the UK after this performance, and the comments weren't positive. She should've sang it live, but I get why she didn't. Those kind of dance songs are quite hard to pull off live.

I thought it was ok, if lacking a little 'oomph'. She looked like she was having a little trouble moving, too. (Or maybe that was just the outfit.) evillol

She probably should have performed "Hello Happiness" instead. It has a more conventional song structure (verse, chorus, verse, chorus) whereas "Like Sugar" seems like a hard song to do live (as MattyJam said).

I'm always elated to see her perform something other than "Ain't Nobody" and "I'm Every Woman".

It's dance, but still funky. Really a contemporary update of her funk roots. UK reviews have been very positive so far.
