The absence of MJ was surprising to me, even more surprising to learn that apparently his highest charting single on the list is 'One Day In Your Life', at #107 (!). 'Smooth Criminal' is #116, 'Beat It' #125, I Just Can't Stop Loving You' #163, and 'Billy Jean' #234.

top40.nl only lists the Top 100 of the 80s, but both are based on the number of points accumulated by the songs (40 pts for one week at #1, 1 point for one week at #40, etc.).

Though if this list is based on 'total chart appearances', maybe it's based on how the number of singles that charted and not on how these singles actually performed.

My bad, 'Chain Reaction' wasn't a cover! Something about that song made me think that there was an earlier version of it in the 60s, its structure reminds me a lot of old Motown songs.
