Well, who would be her competition?

Narrowing it down to the new millennium thus far and relegating it to music makes this claim acceptable.

I agree... I mean she doesn't have any competition. Now had this been the 80's and 90's homegirl would have probably been dead last.

She is this generation's Diana Ross more than Aretha imo. Her solo career has outshined the girl group that begat her.

.

I can't stand her music personally and I worry about her alleged pervasive cultural impact in the long run. She is the aftermath of the late 90s/early 2K music industry and alot of its toxic habits.

if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

Homegirl wouldn't have even ranked.

Fact is, it's not the 80s and 90s anymore and she lasted from the 90's girl groups and teen pop bands.

Meaningless to be honest, and here is why, as far as any competitor the industry is not set that way anymore people are not releasing music like they did back then also labels do not compete and schedule releases against each other because to be honest people are not going to buy two or three new CDs you are lucky if they buy one and most wont. Streaming services are meaningless when I hear about streaming stats I’m like and....that means ....? I get she is known and does things she considers groundbreaking but as far as a female musician she is not even on my radar in the last two decades I would go hands down to Norah jones who has done more touring collaborating side projects her own projects under other names etc...than Beyoncé will do in lifetimes.

She simply has no competition....the music scene has been so watered down, compared to the last 40 years, especially in R'n'B and Rap.

Arent a lot of people on the org just from a certain age where they are from another generation than the people who would be influenced by Beyonce?

Somebody says Aretha Franklin....you do realise people who are influenced by Beyonce don't even know who Aretha Franklin is?

If i would be 16 i'm pretty sure ill say Beyonce is the most influential woman in music these days.

Her shows are huge, she sells out arenas, she is a huge force.

I have never understood the hate for this woman?? I don't know of anything she has ever done to offend so many people? She does her thing and does it very well, so why the hate? She has been a force for many years. She may not have the voice of Aretha, but hell, who does. She sings live and dances well enough. She's not a drug addict and has never been a stripper (like so many have). It's also not her fault that there is no competition. Most new artists suck and can't sing to save their lives. Personally, I think it's just jealousy. Plain and simple.

To be honest, I have never seen anything that special about Beyonce. Yeah, she sings and she dances, but so do a lot of talented people, imo she's just another one in a long line of many before her.

People have to understand this is all opinion but also PLEASE understand when someone just says they disagree it does NOT mean we HATE her and the person being spoke of or do not recognize their talents. For me someone LIKE Mariah Carey is a talent etc... but I dont give her big status because her music has been stuck on one note and her persona and creativity is still stuck in a place and she has no growth as an artist. Has Beyonce grown more, yes of course she has and she is far better a performer on stage but she is also from a time of a lot of MEDIA attention overweighing what you do in your field. People think Kim Kardashian is the biggest TV star of the last twenty years now in terms of polls she is, sadly, but that does not mean she is some great actress or doing something that is special. She is just popular. For Beyonce it is different because she is caught up in that "limelight" and also having Jay Z as her husband so that is all magnifying well above what she does as an artist. I have not necessarly heard major growth in Beyonce's work, yes she is all over she is this and that, but IMO i would rather see her jump all over the place with music, record an album with a band, get some live sound in her music, these are the things that I look for overall in artists and to keep it going. So again when someone disagrees its not that we dont know her or hate her or think she has no talent, so remember its opinion, just like its NPR's opinion or Rolling Stone or this or that.

^^@lastdecember, I agree completely! I don't hate Beyonce at all, nor am I hating on her, in fact, I happen to like her, and think that she is a good performer, but I just don't think that she is as great as some others may think, nor any more special, but that's just my opinion.

Thank you. I have never understood the hate either. Beyoncé IS talented. She has her shit together. She tends to her OWN business. I’ve never heard her disparage any other artist. She keeps her business to herself. She is loyal to her family.
I agree with EVERYTHING you said. What really bothers me is it is my people who are trying to tear this woman down, in order to build up their favofite. Why the hell do black people do that crap? I don’t see any other race trying to tear down their stars in order to build up another. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy and it is pathetic.

Overrated is being too kind. Everything about her screams 'fake'. To quote Graycap:

To think that someone disliking Beyonce can only be out of jealousy is a weak-ass argument.
