As Bohemian Rhapsody strikes box office gold worldwide, Queen fans have another reason to celebrate: viewers will be able to see the entire recreation of the band's iconic Live Aid performance when the movie gets a digital and physical release.
In an interview with Collider Quick, the cast revealed that despite only three songs making it to the final cut, the Live Aid concert was fully recreated with the actors recording the band's legendary set in all its glory. "There is a version of that whole concert but it's been cut. We're going to get to see it soon, then you will too," stars Rami Malek and Gwilym Lee shared, hinting that the concert's full version will be offered as a digital extra.

Saw it in IMAX on Sunday and thought it was pretty much trash.
Once it was over i just kept thinking they made THAT?? It had like TWO good dramatic scenes. First with Freddie and Mary discussing their rift and the possibility of him being gay. The second was with the fictional record executive played by Mike Myers... at least until the retarded dialogue came back in "we'll do this and that like this and that and will be the greatest etc" it was idiotic dialogue much like the first half with all its exposition dialogue
You're supposed to SHOW IT not speak it. Sounded like Ed Wood territory a bit. Really poor poor script.
Didn't really showcase their pomposity or stage presence to be contended with. ..nor their innovative stage lighting and BOMBAST. It truly failed to present the LIVE band for the beast that it was and all the abridged LIVE shots were pretty lame.
I could go on forever about factual errors but that's not the point of a drama. However they really sold the band short on their beginnings and working as full time students/tutors and getting studio time at TRIDENT STUDIOS only in downtime. There was no self financed album by selling Rogers fictional van.
For myself and most long term fans I've spoken with it was either simply disappointing, or pure shit.
I stop short of calling it shit because the public seems to enjoy it. So maybe FINDING was right.
I didn't enjoy the performances much either. It felt so incomplete. But this morning i saw even three mighty Tom Savini speak its praises so. ... dang.
I don't get how it's considered good at all. I could count a few scenes worth keeping. Either way I'll stop unless asked for differences from reality and the thread becomes that.
Didn't enjoy it. Amateur stuff. C GRADING simply because it has QUEEN Tunes.
Without those it's not better than a bad LIFETIME movie. But even those have better realistic dialogue ♫"Trollin, Trolling! We could have fun just trollin'!"♫ |

Its weird ... I agree with most of what you said, and spotted a number of faults with the story myself (like Roger Taylor having two solo albums out before Freddie did his, so how can he get angry at Freddie for wanting to go solo?!) ... but...
... I still loved it! Maybe it was the music, maybe it was Malek's performance, or the fact it looked like they actually time travelled and kidnapped a young Brian May.
Most films like this go for the grand, serious, biopic approach, Ray, Walk The Line, Last King Of Scotland, Lincoln, The Immitation Game, etc. but this felt like it was aiming for something less serious, maybe a younger audience? ... it then felt at odds with some of the more serious subject matter, but even then I couldn't help but enjoy myself.
I think the film is best approached not expecting anything too deep, taken at face value, and enjoyed for what it is. Its not like you can't find out all the less celebratory parts of Queen's history elsewhere in the ton of books and documentaries made if folks are really keen on the truth of it all.

The things that simply aren't true in the film could fill up a book. I understand it was taking artistic license.. but this was apparently approved of by Bri/Rog... Broger...Maylor...
I had expected a better script, instead of one that plays Freddie off as kind of the weaker of the bunch. It also sanitizes all the other bands' activities... (All were on the cusp of ruining their marital and familial relationships while working in Munich for HOT SPACE, and later A KIND OF MAGIC; studio producer Rheinhold Mack is on record for jokingly saying as to what went wrong "I'm not going to say it was lots of cocaine and loose women, nudge nudge, wink wink")
But yes, truly that whole being incensed of Freddie's solo project being a reason for the rift is nonsense... Roger put out FUN IN SPACE in 1981, Brian put out STAR FLEET PROJECT (an EP) with Eddie Van Halen and Phil Chen in 1983... John Deacon was recording stuff with "Man Friday and Jive Junior" a single which is great called "Picking Up Sounds" (possibly more ripped off by a certain Bruno Mars)
it's inclusion does represent a bit of animosity because Freddie WAS approached with a signing offer which was indeed more generous than the one received for QUEEN on THE WORKS.
Freddie had also recently worked with Giorgio Moroder who was issuing a "modern version of METROPOLIS by Fritz Lang featuring a modern soundtrack.... it led to the band getting permissive use of the footage of the Robot Maria and Rotwang in the music video for RADIO GA GA.
To address only this point.. the story is pretty ludicrous... as well as Queen having "not played in 2 years" what bullshit. They had just come off of the JAPANESE leg of their 1985 Tour... something like a few weeks prior. Queen rehearsed zealously prior to LIVE AID...... and although they DID boost their own performance volume.. it was longitme sound guy Trip Khalaf who adjusted the MAIN POWER on their performance. SO .. the film had mixed approximations... much like Fred's boyfriend Jim Hutton who met him well before LIVE AID and was a hair dresser.
I think many composites were made... but what especially hurt for me, is that the band was never shown as powerful. Nor did it show a work ethic... or even mention Brian's HOME MADE guitar. (with his father).
Friends of Freddie, as well as Jim Beach have stated in public and private that the character presented as Freddie was not the Freddie they knew. Freddie enjoyed his hedonistic life, and all indications were it was going on since at least 75'. So were the rest of the band's excesses. To reduce Freddie to an apologist was weird. The entire film was weird. ♫"Trollin, Trolling! We could have fun just trollin'!"♫ |

I still think it was a great movie. With it being PG13 we knew going in, that they were leaving a lot out, especally with Freddie. |

I think he was alright, but given pretty shitty dialogue excepting the scene about his sexuality. I thought it might have actually been CINEMATIC starting from there but...nah.. it just went bad all over again. To quote a Queen B-Side... it was a LOST OPPPORTUNITY. (artistically at least...financially this is great for the band's $$.... with the HUGE success....hopefully they'll release something worthwhile from the vaults now..
...Maybe concert for Kampuchea.... Houston 77... they have plenty more. They ought to do something like KISSOLOGY and put in multisourced live shows together without bitching about imperfections and littering it with overdubs.
Or AT LEAST ... do a deluxe INNUENDO... 5.1, 8.1. whatever.. Maybe a remix option as well.
Plus all those promotional flicks have been unavailable in digital format. Work something out with DoRo to get some rushes. Even if it's sad...They did all the promo from 86-end.)
Anyways... I don't think anybody was particularly good at doing anything onstage... John Deacon's fella looked kinda ridiculous...and John was prob easiest to copy next to Freddie. All but the LIVE AID bit looked like cheap staging despite a seeming reproduction of "THE PIZZA OVEN" lighting rig, post 76. [Edited 11/8/18 10:39am] ♫"Trollin, Trolling! My guess is you're a pretty hardcore Queen fan ...
... the equivalent for me would be a film about Prince (I can see that happening soon if the Elton/Rocketman film is also a financial success) or Madonna where it was factually inaccurate and given a script riddled with cliches; I'd be pretty p*ssed off, so I can see how the Bo Rhap movie is super frustrating for you.
I wonder if it would've made a difference if they'd have marketed the film as only being inspired by real events, and even had a screen card at the front of the film stating that.
Even as I was watching it though I was a bit surprised by how much of Queen's history they were cramming in to the film. I think it would have worked better as two films or even three films, focusing on a different era for each movie, and even going up to Freddie's passing ... they could have finished with the Freddie tribute concert.

I'm a big Queen fan but have yet to see the new movie. Mainly because I've seen all the docs & read majority of the books on Freddie & Queen and idk if there's anything new to tell. From the reviews I've read it seems Freddie is a downplayed version of how he really was too. Freddie Mercury had a side to him where he'd rather be at home with his Cats, but on the other hand he was very much the showman/entertainer.
Its no secret the Queen guys were partiers and I think its one of the Queen magic years VHS where one of their infamous parties is covered. On the plus side, I hope the movie will get more people into Queens music and the old VHS tapes/Laserdisc (I believe a live in Japan concert only got released on this format) get digital remastered DVD/Blu Ray releases. Also that any unreleased Freddie/Queen songs get an official release too. |

Documentaries like “Days of our lives” which is all them no insiders are what you need to watch if that’s what you want. This is not a biopic this is a Hollywood film, take it for what it is. And honestly I think if one is ever done on Prince it should be at least one if not two decades from now.

I don't doubt that there will be a definitive documentary about Freddie and Queen in the future...after the current members are retired...or gone. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Very entertaining movie and Rami was terrific!. Not sure if his performance is oscar worthy, but he did a hell of a job. The mannerism were right on! I'm glad he was relatively unknown to me before seeing the movie too. Made it seem more real. |

I thought Rami was great in it.
On too of the many flaws people have mentioned, I didn’t like the part where Rami tells the band he has AIDS before Live Aid...even though it was actually two years after.
