I'm not a country fan, but I remember watching Hee Haw a few times after the Muppets Show on Sundays and seeing Roy Clark's dueling banjo routine. It wasn't until recently I realized what a phenomenonal guitarist he was.

Country guitar legend and Hee Haw host Roy Clark died Thursday (Nov. 15), and superstars including Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and more shared memories of the late country star.

"Roy Clark was one of the greatest ever," Parton said in an emailed statement. "His spirit will never die. I loved him dearly and he will be missed."

"Roy Clark shaped my path," Paisley tweeted. "My Papaw introduced me to his music as a toddler. Every Saturday we’d watch Hee Haw. My first guitar book was a Roy Clark guitar method. I practiced his style, then practiced making his facial expressions. He was a hero. And so many have the same story."

Keith Urban also shared his story of the legendary guitarist via Twitter. "My first CMA memory is sitting on my living room floor watching Roy Clark tear it up. Sending my love and respect to him and his family for all he did," he wrote.

"Rest In Peace friend, brother, mentor Roy Clark," wrote The Oak Ridge Boys in a tweet.

A fellow Oklahoman, he was quite talented, funny, and had a great reputation in Tulsa.

I remember watching Hee Haw as a kid and Roy seemed old then. He was definitely a very talented guitarist. RIP.

Same here... But he wasn't that old... Funny how age puts a different perspective on things! He was always great on guitar and banjo.

i'm glad he did, i heard nothing but black music outside of that, country is important for me as a musician.

40 years ago, my dad was born in 1926 and was full blooded indian, one of the ironic things about indians of that era was that they loved country music sung by guys dressed just like the guys that were killing them, strange but true.

I remember watching Hee Haw as a kid, so I remember Roy Clark, and I enjoyed watching him play, he was great!

Those country musicians are very talented, and play at a very high level of skill. I have jazz albums from country greats Chet Atkins and Hank Garland
