Can you define what you mean by Rock? I'm not joking with that question. [Edited 10/19/18 2:32am]

Generally speaking, I meant guitars, yes. You know, something Rebellious, something Cool, something Anti-establishment.....?!!

There's plenty of rock bands out there--you just won't find them on the music charts aby more. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

My cousin still plays in rock bands and never made a dime from it. He even has a home recording studio and custom designs guitars. After 35 years, he still does it for the love of music... You can't get booked in Canada unless you play rock.

No they don't! You don't know what you're talking about. Most people I know (and they are Canadians) do not like either Avril or Knickleback and I know for a fact that Canadian bands do not aspire to be like either of them. If you want some great Canadian rock, check out The Tragically Hip! They are the best! RIP Gord Downy.
As for rock in general, when I want to hear good rock, I go back to the classics from the 60's and 70's.

The world is dead. | |

I choose to believe rock isn't dead but rather it's gone underground. Still plenty of talented rock bands across the spectrum of the genre that are doing their thing outside of the mainstream spotlight, at your local music venues. Free from the dictates of major labels. I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

I definitely think rock is dead. It has been taken over by hip hop. Rappers are the new rock stars, sadly. I still listen to rock and metal from the 80s though. It ain't dead for me. I'm keeping that shit alive single handedly.

Of course its not dead. If you look at the charts you might think, but there are so many rockbands around. And remember, its mostly rock that is still selling out stadiums. Its funny, when i was 15 i hated rock, now im 45 and i love it.

People were already asking this question 20 years ago, maybe even earlier. Lenny asked, Prince replied. Is jazz dead? Is funk dead? Is classical music dead? IDK what it means really. Genres and style go through this time when they're new, and they get the spotlight, and once they go past this phase people believe the genre is dead but how can a genre be dead when you have thousands of artists and band still doing it? IDK, the golden age of rock may have ended in the late 90's, after grunge, indie rock and brit pop gave it its last great hours as being a fresh and culturally influential genre, but people didn't stop playing or listening to rock. Hell, I don't listen to much rock but I'm sure there's been many new subgenres and styles and critically acclaimed rock artists in the 21st century. So IDK. I think those people who say rock (or any genre that was popular when they were young) is dead are deader themselves. Is it really about rock or our fear of getting old, irrelevant, and finally die without anyone noticing? Is it dead? Why does this question come up every 10 years? Songs have been written about the death of Rock & Roll and it's just weird to me. I wonder if people were wondering this about other genres of music. Looking for the 1948 article asking if swing music is dead...

C'mon y'all, Rock ain't dead...as pointed out here, it went underground. It's only dead on pop music charts... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

No genre of music ever really dies. You can bet that, somewhere in the world, people are listening and bobbing their heads to a rock album and as someone else pointed out, classic rock artists and bands are still selling out arenas and stadiums.Hell,I've been listening to Def Leppard alot these past few weeks.

I remember people saying decades ago that Rock died in the 1970s... But, it didn't... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
