Steve Perry returns!

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Voices change over time. Bands sometimes even perform in a lower key just to try & extend voice life year by year.

All that aside, I loved the song when I heard it. There are interviews w/ him where he mentions losing his love of music. He didn't even go into his studio for a very, very long time. He said he found his love of it again, which I'm glad. Although I have no doubt he's been recording music over the last 25 years to some extent.

Besides Robert Plant, I would say Steve Perry is one of the best tenor voices in rock and roll in as much time. Freddie Mercury would make it a holy trinity. FM definitely had more baritone range.

Perry's voice & songwriting are right where they should be. I'm very curious about the album.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I'm just used to that strong voice Steve Perry. Hubby says he now sounds raspy like Rod Stewart. He is still 1 of my favs though.

Steve's voice is rougher than it used to be but he still sounds good to these old ears! Although I like the new kid with Journey, he's still a copy of Steve and it's a damned shame the group didn't reunite with Steve. This could have been a Journey tune (not the best but hey! Waddayawant lol). I like it. I hope to hear more and better from Steve on the new album. cool Glad he's back!

Didn't know he was pushing 70..he looks and sounds great. It's funny..Steve Perry is back and the only thing the diehards are screaming is; "Journey Reunion!!"....Bolton trivia:..There was a big rumor (back in 87 or 88) that Micheal Bolton was going to be the new singer in Journey. MTV used to play his "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay" video (and some of the Journey guys are in the video). That led to the speculation..MTV even mentioned it....I'm glad that never happened.

There were these two ladies in Houston who, back in the '80's/'90's, were the biggest Prince collectors I knew. They lived in the country and had two mobile homes. One they lived in; one that was completely filled with Prince stuff.

They had EVERYTHING. I could not believe it.

In 1994 they ditched it all for Michael Bolton. eek

I didn't find that out until they'd already disposed of all their Prince stuff. sad

But MICHAEL BOLTON?!?!?!?

Schon & Cain collaborated with Journey in 1987. Bolton is a good singer but his cheese factor would have damaged Journey's reputation, IMO.

Of course, the diehards will never get a reunion w/ Perry. He's even given Arnel his blessing & praised his vocal work with the band. Arnel and Steve Augeri were the two best singers they got post-Perry. Augeri was "Perry with a perm" to many.

More Bolton trivia as a footnote: In the early 80s, post-Ozzy, Bolton was already into heavier rock music and auditioned to sing lead for Black Sabbath.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

There could have been a "Bolton Sabbath"?.. eek ...Glad that didn't happen. I remember seeing him on Oprah during his popularity wave...A superfan wanted to meet him and she did it on the show...He looked like he didn't even want to be there and was kind of rude to her. neutral ..I actually felt a little embarrased for her.

His voice may be a bit lower and raspier, but for a 70yr old who hasn't sung professionally in almost 25 years, he sounds damn good! I'm excited to hear more
