MJ: The Bad Outtake vs. the album cut I just watched the video for "Another Part of Me" (with Sheryl Crow on backing vocals, which is still such a trip). Anyhoo - it's still not a favorite song. I think most MJ fans know the story of Quincy, Frank, & MJ playing the two songs and Frank shaking his fat ass to "Another Part of Me", giving it the extra boost it needed to get on the record. . . . .

"Another Part Of Me" is my favorite song on the album
but I agree with you,"Just Good Friends" should have been ditched. It's just not a good song.

Fun fact: Variations of the intro to Streetwalker has been used as an intro to Smooth Criminal on stage many times.
Another Fun Fact: Streetwalker was the initial inspiration for Dangerous (the song). An early demo version of Dangerous has a very similar rhythm arrangement to Streetwalker.
Another Part Of Me is the superior song IMO, but yes it could have easily replaced Just Good Friends. Although I learned to appreciate JGF over the years.

Michael had a ton of great material ready to go for this album and for Dangerous as well. Some his final choices were dubious, imo. "Anna Stesia come to me, talk to me, ravish me
Liberate my mind." | |

I totally agree with Streetwalker, I LOVE that song.

Hmm, I love Streetwalker, but I think Another Part Of Me is the stronger cut.

"Just Good Friends" isn't that bad. However, it's not a song I usually pursue, "Streetwalker" is hot but it still has that incomplete demo feel to it. I guess it could have been a decent replacement for JGF. "Another Part of Me" belonged on the album. The song fits right in and slaps in it's on special way; one of the funkiest songs on the LP.

Frankly, Bad and Dangerous are great as they were released. I prefer Steetwalker too, but that s not the question. It was too controversial at the time, So the choice is understandable. . What is less, is why MJ never reused this kind of stuff for, say, Invincible or an hypothetical follow up? This would have been à smarter move for his carreer. I really hated when hé ditched such great material in various compilation s, instead of re recording them for a great album.

The musical bridge/break toward the end of the song is too short though. And this song needed to end properly with à bang, not with à fading, really inappropriate here. [Edited 9/6/18 5:01am]

The radio edit (which is longer than the album version) ends better imo

I am surprised about the horns on "Bad". We had the 45 of "Bad" (b/w "I Can't Help It") and I can't rightly recall if it had already morphed.

One reason they went back to do another mix of the album was because of the lawsuit from Hugo Zucarelli (inventor of Holophonics) and realizing it was basically a snake oil situation "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Personally, I would've used GET IT than "Good Friends." Though it's featured on Stevie's CHARACTERS album, it too could've been as originally on MJ's BAD album. [Edited 9/10/18 18:48pm]

Many songs off the album were sped up at 5% : Bad, Smooth, Dirty Diana...to give the album à more punchy sound. It was a common Practice at the time. . Brad Sundberg said that MJ sounds "too Chipmunk" on Bad.

I like it too, but that doesn t mean it s good. It s embarassing, and not from the level of its following albums. I mean, nobody told Stevie back in 1987 that his album was pure garbage? Was hé forced to release it?
