Going by this logic, then pretty much everything here has men playing on it or producing it. The only difference is that the guys playing instruments in Blondie, Rufus, or Sade are officially band members behind a female lead singer, rather than session musicians playing behind a solo singer. Janet usually has Jam & Lewis and Madonna has Stephen Bray, Nile Rodgers & Patrick Leonard. Unless you're talking about The Go-Go's or Runaways where all women are playing instruments, and even they have male producers. The only record I can think of that only women are involved, is an album by Terri Lyne Carrington ‎called The Mosaic Project. 3 of the songs (remakes) on it are written by men though. Beyoncé tours with an all female band. There used to be a label in the 1970s called Olivia Records that only had lesbian singers, but I don't know if all the musicians playing on the records are women.

That's taking it too far, and NorthC raises a good point. I think there's a difference in how the ACT is comprised, and given the answers that have been provided, I think we are dealing with female solo acts

For example, I think of Sade as a female act, but it was actually a band, so I don't think I was right in adding Sade to this list, since we're dealing with female solo acts here.

The OP doesn't say solo. That would exclude The Go-Go's, The Bangles, The Supremes, Kittie, Clark Sisters, Pointer Sisters, Honey Cone, Salt n' Pepa and other girl groups/bands. Blondie has a female singer and that is the voice of the group. Would someone exclude Talking Heads in a list of male groups, just because they have a female bassist? The voice of the group is male. Do people not count Gladys Knight as a female singer because she was in a group with her brother & cousins? Now I don't see how RuPaul counts though, and someone had him in their list.

Anyway, knowing what kinds of threads the OP usually makes, he probably really wants posters to list the female singers who are the prettiest or has the best body or dresses the best

Shouldn't BLONDIE, EURYTHMICS, MADONNA, Aguilera, Much of the Motown stuff Britney, B-52's be REMOVED from this list? They were creative GROUPS where the female was just the voice (much like SADE who should also be removed from this) as well as Amy Winehouse who had more writers than a "rap album".

What's the criteria of this list? Even the great SYREETA album was at least HALF written by Stevie.

OP you should repost with criteria,

Cause if criteria is this wide then a couple of PINK FLOYD albums belong up here

Can someone please tell me what "albums by females" means? I see Blondie here. That was three men and a woman.

yeahthat I was under the impression that it meant solo female artists. That is why I didn't list any female group albums.

Too many to mention but these are the ones in my rotation forever now.
Cree Summer - Street Faerie. I dare you to turn this off,it's really that good & Kravitz co-wrote & plays on every song.

Joni Mitchell - For the Roses. Just for the bridge connecting "Lesson in Survival" to " Let the Wind Carry Me" alone.

Patty Griffin- Flaming Red. From the scorching title track to the last note ,another under appreciated work of songwriting w/ great hooks.

PJ Harvey - Stories from The City. This album played live.. good night!

Do you think Aretha, Etta James and Billie Holliday get disqualified as "female musicians" because they didn't write all or the majority of their songs?

.

Singing is a musical instrument as well, you know.

I think we are dealing with female solo acts

All female groups should be included.

But in the history small-r rock, male dominated groups are the default. In that context, "male groups" is redundant.

As I said earlier, I don't think Blondie or GK+Ps count, because each act is comprised mainly of males, as is Sade (which I removed).

I don't count RuPaul either.
