I don't know the point of this release. I saw it on Instagram & YT the other day. It's a mash-up at best.

I have to say I've been disappointed in the releases from the MJ estate. 9 years, only 1.5 albums, a Halloween special, & a couple of mash-ups, & a buttload of compilations.

Compare to Prince being dead for a bit over 2 years, & we have had a lot more come out.

MJ's estate just seems to be not doing a lot, and we all know MJ has plenty of stuff in his vault.

Precisely. And you'd think they'd be rushing to get some of Michael Jackson's unreleased music out. His collaboration with Freddie Mercury, his outtakes from classic albums like Thriller and Bad. These are all guaranteed big sellers. Not to mention any music he recorded after Invincible. They could throw together 9 or 10 of those songs and market it as his "final album".

It really is typical though. If I can just be selfish for a minute (ha, who am I kidding, I'm ALWAYS selfish) my 3 favourite singers of all time were Prince, George Michael and Michael Jackson. All of them died young but left behind quality material that will probably never see the light of day. Am I a jinx or something? If I wasn't a GM fan you'd all probably have Trojan Souls by now. His estate are probably like "hmm, let's not put this stuff out, Emma really wants it so just to spite her we'll get Nile Rodgers to remix Fantasy instead."
Perhaps I'm reading too much into it? No, I'm convinced this is all to spite me.

Add selling the Sony/ATV catalogue to that list of screw ups.

In other MJ news, it appears some of his catalog (Bad, Thriller, OTW) has been added to Amazon Prime Music for streaming/download. Previously the Halloween compilation and a few soundtrack cuts were all that was available.

There's a reason why songs were left in the vault unfinished, they just weren't up to par. Otherwise, they would've been released. I'm going to say there are 3 songs in the vault left that are worthy of being released: Chicago 1945, Buffalo Bill, and Can't Get Your Weight Off Me.

I think the bonus disk from Xscape proves that there's some decent material still left. Either way though, even if stuff was left unreleased, and in some cases, unfinished, it's still worth slapping it on a CD and selling it. A lot of people will buy anything with Michael Jackson's name on it. And you never know, there may be some hidden gems. Basically, I'd rather have that stuff available so I can choose whether or not to buy it.

cool I don't think my son ever saw this one; he loved Moonwalker as a little kid though. Now, all they have new to offer kids is the terrible Halloween special from last year.

Id like to ad "Throwin your life away' i think they passed it to a few 'producers like Ron Neff U for Michael and xscape. The other songs you mention are the ones i think are most worthy too.

Although sometimes i read titles of songs and i had a certain fantasy of how they would sound bassed on the title and they turned out a utter disappointment lol

Snippets of Throwin' Your Life Away have already been leaked. But I am assuming you knew that? Sounds decent. Vocals that leaked sounded like around 1988ish

Yes i heard them, sounds prommising but still different to what my imagination thought the song would sound like. Ive read an interview.

About Chicago 1945 im doubtfull we will ever get a propper release,

i heard Steve Porcaro blocked the song earlier because they wanted to update it.

From "Cant get your weight off of me ive heard on a podcast with one of Michaels latest co workers ( Michael Prince i believe) that he had it on his harddrive and he never knew he had it and listend to it and i believe its a full song

If the Estate guaranteed to Porcaro they wouldn't mess with it, it could be released at some point. I believe Can't Get Your Weight Off Me was considered for The Ultimate Collection, but didn't make the final tracklisting because MJ decided it could be released on an album at some point in the future. Buffalo Bill was worked on from 1983 all the way to BAD. John Barnes said it's almost finished and sounds good. Actually, Tomboy is another track that is in the vaults that might sound good. Roger Troutman worked on it.

Very weak mix. There have. been bootleg megamizes on Napster 20 years ago that were better.

Quincy Jones says there were "800 songs" considered for Thriller (I actually think a "song" in this case might be nothing more than a groove, a beat), I don't remember how many for BAD. I seeeeriously doubt that only three are "worthy"... biggrin And besides, if the basic essence of a song is solid, it's up to the producers to do the rest.
